This one isn't 4x4, but proud to have it added to my herd.

1983 L44, Diesel, non-turbo. 284,xxx miles. Belonged to my grand-dad, from the mid-80s til late 90s, my dad drove it for about 15 years after that and now it is in our collection. I think I am the 4th owner.

It has factory A/C, and still has the original AM/FM radio.

I have one of those 2L motors and a 5 speed on a stand out in my shop. Another project that never got done...

49Tire Replaced the front skid plate with RCI steel while I was in for an oil change Tuesday before the meeting. These only look "slightly" used. While poking around under the truck while on the lift, it looks like I need to buy the fuel tank skid next...

Wife's starter crapped out. Went to check it out and valve cover gasket was leaking erl all over it. This 4R has 175K on it and I believe it was the original gasket. Starter looked original too. I'm betting if I had the time to clean up the starter, there's probably nothing really wrong with it. But it went back for core.

Switched gears and started the 5VZ-FE valve cover gasket replacement. I only did the passenger side for now, since I had a short window of garage time this weekend. It's a two piece cast aluminum intake manifold and you only have to remove the upper portion to do the passenger side. The worst part is wriggling around the factory wiring harness, which is laid out so tightly that there is little wiggle room even when you unplug everything. There were a lot of plastic wire management pieces that cracked from age/heat fatigue.

Someone on FB commented on the "dent" in my intake a couple inches below the sombrero. I think it was cast that way. Others said there's was smooth there. I have a hard time believing an impact dent that big wouldn't be catastrophic. What say y'all?

Upon replacing the intake hose assembly, I noticed the hoses were shiite. I probably finished the cracking while wrestling them off. I did a quick and dirty repair with e-tape and have ordered replacement hoses.

It is for cable clearance. Either the throttle or cruise cable lays right there. Might be the trans kick down, regardless your good. Those manifolds would shatter if hit hard enough to make that dent anyway.

The VC itself, not too bad, getting there is a PITA. The injector plugs are the worst. Also, have a look at the spark plug tube seals and the half moons on each end. Mine weren't leaking so I didn't mess with them. I did replace the plug seals. I also put an "airaid" intake tub on while I was in there to eliminate the menagerie of stock silencers.
