Thanks for posting your project. You guys do some amazing stuff. I've recently had some frustrating moments in my own restomod project. Seeing your post reminds me how lucky I was to get a totally rust free FJ40. I still have a ways to go but after reading your post I realized I am much farther ahead because of my rust free good fortunes. Perhaps if you guys ever want to go on holiday you can put some panels(zinc please) in your suitcase and come over to America and patch the rust in my 71 FJ40.

Cheers

It would be worth the trip over just to see a rust free BJ. The last time I seen a rust free BJ was 1980 when I worked on them during my apprenticeship. The company I worked for had a contract with Toyota for refinishing any damage on new vehicles after they landed in Ireland from Japan. Unfortunately due to poor seam sealing and lack of protective paint treatment they were doomed to rust in our damp climate.

The rear tub cross members and support panels were in very poor condition so we completed the tub today with some new sections.

Beautiful work mate. Cant wait to see the finished product.

Blows my mind every time I see your work, you folks have "mad skills" !!!!!

aside from the cowl, he now has a new galvanized tub, nice ... would have expected the frame to be worse, given how bad the tub was rotted ... no road salt or whatever else they mix with it, like here, I guess ...

Not everyone likes the zinc coated panel work because of the extra work involved in welding but once its properly prepared you have a much better finished panel. Luckily our winter temperatures don't freeze to much in a normal year so not too much salt used but its damp for most of the year. Most of the chassis's on 40s and 70s are in pretty good condition but that damp climate keeps the tin worm active on the body joints all year long.

Holy sh!t! That before and after is unreal. Those drivetrain components look brand new.

What did you use to degrease? Particularly the valve cover?

Great work there.

Thanks for the comments gents, we have been flat out over the last few weeks working on some tooling and dies but have managed to keep things moving along. I will post some pics of the new upper quarter panels we have been working on shortly.
