Well team - some good news, some bad news, and some other news.

The bad news: my engine had rod knock. Was quoted 7-10k to rehab it via a shop - I worked to get a takeout 1FZ-F from another member who had done an engine swap. I ended up buying the engine right around the same time someone reached out to me about purchasing the troopy.

The good news: This troopy will remain in the hands of a land cruiser enthusiast.

The other news: my troopy is now sold and has gone to a new home. I'll let the new owner make their own build thread if they elect to go that route.

I bought this truck from Oman during a dark place in my life. My wife and I had just lost our unborn son during her first round of IVF treatment. I figured if God had not wanted me to have a child I was going to find something that I could pour my heart and soul into. Seeing this truck every day reminded me of that loss. I loved learning how this truck operated and have loved being a member of the 70 series forum. Thank you to everyone who answered my questions and helped point me in the right direction.

Fortunately, my wife and I were blessed on her third round of IVF with a healthy baby boy. I would not have felt safe taking my son in this vehicle until he was at least a teenager unfortunately. For now - his adventures will only be in the 200. I will continue to live vicariously through all of you.

Thank you.

Thank you for helping me with my build. You helped a complete stranger. I will always be grateful for having crossed timelines with you.

@prwillard2 I'm glad you found your truck a new home. If you ever want to get back into a Middle East 70 and I am still spending time in Dubai I would consider it an honor to provide an assist. Your work on your troopy has been an inspiration. It kind of changed my attitude about new vs used parts. Now my first effort it to get new whenever possible, instead of salvage parts. And I'm FINALLY starting to really get into changing mine around to what I want, with a 1HZ/intercooled turbo engine swap being the beginning.

Love it! Glad I could help!

I will absolutely reach out if I get back into a middle eastern 70. I still have our mutual friends number too.

Thanks for always being willing to help. Appreciate you!

OK, so I'm the new 70 guy. I've had a 94 pickup, an 80 and two 100s. The Troopy is on its way to me in Colorado as I write this.
I've been casually looking for a Troopy for several months now. The one in Bellingham that needed an engine caught my eye, but I didn't jump on it before it sold. I was digging through build threads and saw Paul's and the unfortunate circumstance that led him to part with it. Sent him a message and we had several phone calls over the last week and BOOM! it happened. I feel like this thread, which I paid more attention to the last week than I did my wife, was honest about the condition of the Troopy and he was very forthcoming in his conversations with me. I would make the exact same decision as Paul if it were me if that little dude in the pic above was part of my new life! Paul is a solid dude and hope to cross paths again.

In the meantime, I'll start a continuation of his build thread as soon as my wife lets me come back into the house. First thing will be to decide whether to install the 1FZ-F that Paul procured or shoot for an LS, LT or 1HD-FT swap. Probably the 1FZ for now.

The 1FZ-F is a fantastic engine. Inline 6, Toyota quality and plenty of pep. I have one in my FZJ75 and will be doing a Manta stainless exhaust soon due to the climate I live in but other than that no need to touch it. Looking forward to your continuation of the build.

Cheers, James

Hello,

x2.

Have it tuned properly and do not look back. And watch your right foot.

Hi Ranchero, can I tempt you with this instead of the 1FZ-F?

My troopy also was sourced from Oman and I am finally getting around to really working on it. It also came with a 1FZ-F and I got really mad at that engine, specifically carburetor problems even with a brand new OEM one on there. It embarrassed me out on the sand with a lot of non-cruiser friends around. I just wanted that engine gone.

The truck was used as a school bus in rural Oman as I understand it, so it had seen a very hard life. Just finished a complete redo of both axels, brakes all around, disassembly and rebuild of the H151 with taller 2nd and 5th, and the installation of this freshened 1HZ with a Safari conservative spec diesel. And I just ordered the last piece which is a new OEM 79 series steering box and Pittman arm. I've already set the odometer to zero. I've kind of fallen in love with the 1HZ family of diesel engines.

All that said, today I was driving my pickup with the 1FZ-F in it and it had plenty of pep even though it has a heavy flatbed on it. So as others have said above, the 1FZ-F is a fine engine. But it does not have the diesel burble.

OTOH Paul has been really enjoying his Omani Troopy while mine

It came out of my troopy if ya have any questions feel free to reach out, was running wonderfully when I pulled it! Swapped to an LS but only because it sounded fun, the 1FZ is a great motor and propelled the truck along just fine.
