UGLY - Seats could be better. I brought a supplemental lumbar pad, so will give it a try. The $30 solution vs. the $5,000 solution (Scheel-Mann Vario Fs). We shall see. So TBD until Ihave a few full days on the road. So either way, also GOOD.
Hello,

The $30 solution works better than it seems. Ask me how I know.

Perhaps they should have designed the seats with a little more lumbar support.

Regarding the not ugly, it is good to see a Cruiser going to a good home.

Congratulations on your new truck.

Have a safe trip. Godspeed.

For the ride quality, check your tire temps across the tread with an IR temp gun or thermal probe if you have one. You can do this after 30 min on the highway but check them right when you stop to get an accurate reading. Goal is to get the tread temp as equal as possible across the tread from inside to outside. With the light rear end, you might find that the tires are slightly over inflated. I ended up at 30 psi cold at 65 deg ambient on all 4 with 300lbs in the back and 3/4 tank of petrol.

DAY TWO
Nice run from Monroe, LA to Plano, TX did some shopping at Home Depot - cleaning stuff, etc. and tried to buy some bags of play sand for ballast but the product on offer was very different from what have in Idaho. Not washed and a bunch of other materials mixed in. Regional differences I guess. Will try another HD tomorrow.

Coming into Dallas METRO, the truck started to miss and as I parked it, had a whiff of electrical smell. Visual inspection in failing light show no anomalies. Will give it a proper look tomorrow.

The lumbar pad was a great improvement but i miss the thigh support of my Scheel-Mann Vario Fs. Maybe next year! 😎

Let's hear about this electricial smell. It's all OEM except the radio so that's not really something you see on a stock Toyota

Last leg of the day, TX border to Plano. Started to rain lightly, moderate traffic. Engine started to miss, like a plug wire was disconnected or broken connection. Parked truck and went to check in at hotel. As I climbed out, caught a whiff of electrical short or overheat. No smoke and very faint. Took care of business and conducted visual inspection failing light.

Walked to dinner, repeated inspection both times - no smell. I have several car fires on my resume and a decent sense of smell. No such odors from time I departed Jackson airport until this evening. Many stops last two days and hood has been opened several times each day.

Engine has run cool and strong at 60 to 75 mph, no miss until rain at end of day and then only the last 20 minutes or so.

Any questions, comments and suggestions welcome.

Radio is functioning normally and connected to phone streaming from iPhone. Will inspect engine and test drive with radio off just in case.

Hello Ward, Regarding the electrical odor, it could just be the old Saudi dust cooking off the truck which to my senses, smells similar to electrical topics. I know mine has this smell from time to time in the cabin and like you, my senses went up trying to diagnose the issue. Now that the truck has lived in New England for a bit, this smell has dissipated. Regarding the miss, did you pull the plugs and distributor cap for an inspection? This is where I would start and have some emery cloth handy to clean up the contacts inside the distributor cap, along with the contact on the distributor rotor arm.

Enjoy the trip!

Cheers, James

Hello @wardharris Any updates on your trip, hope all is going well.

Thanks for asking!! Made it to Flagstaff in good order. Synched up with @orangefj45 and the crew from Terrain Tamer Thursday afternoon for set-up. Just like old times.

Truck was in the booth day one and was a real crowd pleaser. Headed home to Boise to deal with family stuff but will add more details later today.
