Interesting take on the OME shocks vs Bilsteins. I've been wondering if I could throw a pair of 5100s in front and/or rear because I had some on my old rig and they worked really well for me. Did you have a crap experience with the OME nitrocharger shocks?

How hard was the Chevy 63 swap? I've read great things about it. Make sense w/ the longer spring = better ride

My OME shocks didn’t last long mileage wise. I only drive it for around 2 years maybe 20k miles before it was parked for 6. When I pulled the shocks I had at least one dead shock already. The truck always rode rough with them too. If you have the part numbers for the 5100s you can put them into RockAuto and they’re the cheapest I’ve found. I wanna say the fronts were $95 a shock and the rears were $88.

I’d also look into Dobinson, I’ve seen a few people be happier with them than the OME kits on land cruisers.

The rear 63s would be really easy with Sky’s missing link kit. The welding required would be the shock mounts and the front spring hanger. I also get not wanting to do any welding.

i ran the dobs 2" on the 85. thought they were good. even lift, good ride and kit was solid.

Oh man I love hearing this. It’s either that or chevys on my next truck. I’ve done a lot of OME in the past on various trucks including an FJ, 80, Tacoma 1st gen, but I always felt the mini truck setups weren’t as great. You are the second person I’ve heard who liked the dobinsons. It’s probably not a monumental difference because it is what it is with these short spring lengths, but I’m definitely gonna consider when time comes.
