At the bakersfield meet N greet I picked up this old white/unleaded gas stove from MArk (65swb45). It rocks.. I love the old styling and materials. It took a bit of oil on the leater pump cup and she was up and running. Be using it for the first time next weekend up in Cedar City.

Sears and Robuck away :D

I have a Seva gas stove that I got in the seventies
Looks like the one below. Kinda scares people when you light it because it uses heat from the flame to generate pressure. So to get it started you put some fuel in a little cup on top of the tank and light it on fire.
These things are blowtorches when they get going, you can get a 9 cup perculator going in a couple of minutes.

I was looking at he Svea stoves on http://stovecollector.tripod.com/br_svea.htm

Dad has two or three of them. We used to use them all the time for backpacking in the 70's and early 80's before MSR was popular..

They are on ebay all the time. Dont' go for much for how functional they are :D

I might have Dad bring his old stoves out the next time he comes out. The would be handy to leave in the LC for instant heat :D

We used to have the "fire paste" that looked like toothpaste but was flammeable. Pump up the stove and let the paste vaporize the fuel. It was cool to watch when I was young :D

This was mine, still got it...

I am gonna start looking for one of the box types just because I think they are neat :D

I prefer the gas stoves too. I picked up an old Coleman gas stove last year for$10 at a garage sale, works great. I also still have and use my SVEA and yes I get a lot of looks too.

My dad has one of the square ones I believe the brand is Optimus.

Optimus and Seva are identical to each other as far as I know.

The really nice thing about them is they will burn almost any fuel. So for car camping that means all you need is a syphion hose to re-fill. Since they were designed for backpacking they take up very little space, a bonus if you drive a 40.

We had all kinds of fun with fire paste when I was in scouts.

I'm suprised they haven't banned that stuff.

I just picked a old 2 burner Coleman off "curb side display" ;) and It looked like it was used once. No grease drips in it just a little surface rust on the chrome latch. Still had fuel in it so I pumped it up and lit it . Works real well and I wont have to even fill it up for a while :grinpimp:

I got one of these at the Deseret Thrift Store-Like new condition for $5. Unfortunately it wasn't one of the historical types so we took it to Alaska and left it there awaiting our return this year. It was even a 3 burner model-huge.

Don't start Mace

hijack. off subject well kinda.

I got into old Coleman lanterns a few years ago.

I have about 10 now. Don't really know why.

Don't start buying old stoves, you'll turn into a ebay freak.

Too late ;)

I scored a 3-burner Thermos brand stove at a yard sale a few years back. It works, but the tank doesn't hold pressure too well. I am going to convert it to propane and use a 5-lb bottle mounted to my trailer.

Have any of you tried one of these?

I used one on my old Coleman gas for awhile, but i didn't like it too much. I finally went the propane route. :princess: likes it, because she can light it easily...

The problem I always had with the gas ones was that the second burner was always kinda weak...

I'll try to dig up a pic of my lantern now...
