ok finally got around to getting some oil pressure build up before start up and the top half of my motor is getting oil and she cranks just fine by the starter but no oil reaching the the fitting for the mech. guage. I take the fitting off and some will dribble out. I pour oil in the back side of the head and oil then proceeds to come out.

I had the motor apart for about a month doing mods, timing cover fix etc.

I did mess with the oil pump I took the better looking of the parts(pressure relief) and transfered to my old pump(which I sadly admit is not Toyota)......Thats why I did it. Get to another point this tear down of the motor the oil pump just dont move or glide like it should. It catches(when you rotate it by hand) then you need to back it up and try again. Even if I switch out gears it still does it.

New oil pump?

I'd say so, as long as you are sure the oil passages and oil pickup are clear.

Google "Aisin oil pump 22RE" go to shopping section.....bout $75.

Check engnbldr.com, I have one of his "turbo" oil pumps on mine now and it really made a difference (pressure-wise), even on the crappy uncalibrated factory gauge. I don't think he sells them anymore, but sometimes if you call him, he can hook you up with stuff that's not on his website.

When I fired up my 2FE for the first time I used one of those priming rods down the dizzy hole. I could hear oil flowing under the rocker arm cover, and there was oil at the sender and inside the filter. But, it never made pressure at the gauge. I decided to turn the key, and all was well.

You might be just fine.

I may......the system was empty or dry for some time. Just because my gears in the pump dont feel right I will get a new pump

i almost always go by feel when buildin trucks. how the feeler gauge fits, how tight bolts are, feelin a bolt blind gettin a wrench on there. torquin head bolts i actually measure...

but when a part in your hand just dont feel right, be it a U joint, a wheel bearing or a oil pump. if it dont feel right, you just replace it with one that does.

I took it part AGAIN and found scooring etc....the pump is toast:)
