Im trying to put an after market gauge on my 22re. whats up with fitting on the block I cant get a fitting that will work is there a special piece i need or do i have to tap the block?? I also hurd that i can use the port thats under the motor mount I see the plug is that a good idea???

Most likely a 1/8" BSPT (British Pipe) on the block, and your guage is most likely 1/8 or 1/4" NPT.

I bought a tee and adapter from mcmaster.com so that I could hook up an aftermarket guage and keep the factory one operational on my 80 series.

If you want part #'s let me know.

I bought adapters at PepBoys.

Its metric i think its a 9 not sure my problem is that no part stores have anything smaller than a 10 and it doesnt help that the people at the part stores have no clue what there talken about. Whats the dif between bspt and npt??

BSPT has 28 threads per inch vs NPT's 27. BSPT is "metric." They are both tapered pipe threads.

Unless it is very unusual fitting, it is not a 9mm thread. Sealing threads that have to seal are usually tapered. (BSPP exists, which is parallel thread).

I'm suprised your parts store guys don't know what you are talking about. This would be the same adapter for almost anyone who wants to put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on just about any import. (Toyota/Honda rice rockets).

Will the fitting that came with the guage just barely start to thread in, but then get tight? If so, you probably have a 1/8" BSPT fitting on your engine. 1/8" NPT will start to thread into 1/8" BSPT since they are only one T.P.I. different.

Ya the part store people arent very car smart I dont get it you would think that they would have to know a thing or 2 to work at a PARTS STORE but i guess not.

Yep the tread just barley starts and the get tight. I told the guys at 3 different part stores that they told me to just tread it on in.

I called a offroad shop around here and they new what i was talken about before i got done talken so anyway the parts are ordered anf Thanks for your guys help again!!!!
