I am getting oil in a 2F carb. I have cleaned out the pcv valve and it is functioning (air flows 1 direction).

I talked with a mechanic buddy of mine and he mentioned using a breather in place of the PCV valve and plugging the back of the carb.

Any thoughts on the breather, should I get another PCV valve or any other ideas as to the reason for the oil in the carb.

Also, we replaced the head gasket about 5 months ago and the compression is within spec.

The pcv should be connected to a port that is below the throttle plates, and most likely isnt the cause of oil in the carb.

You’re getting blowby … check compression numbers as mentioned above… if they are not great … that could be the issue

I would do two things

1... Clean your Pcv and the corresponding hose inside and out... Carb cleaner and shake Pcv it should rattle

2... clean out the hose that goes to the carb from the valve cover

If you have low compression... I drove about 17-18 years with low compression ... Waited for the engine to die... Never did (¨They are too stupid to die¨ ~FJ40Jim)

I was getting massive amount of oil into the aircleaner ... Messing up the carb hence making it run like crap... My fix... I ran the hose off the top of the valve cover to 'air' ... Had the hose run down the firewall and out the bottom of my fender... Was quite interesting to see a bit of 'smoke' comming from the end of the hose... essentially creating a draft tube

A buddy of mine @rabid had commented at seeing this as he was driving on the side of my truck on the highway ... 'Look Johnny's truck is a Steam Train' LOL ... Little puffs out the bottom of the hose

Mind you my compression was WAY low in the 30's for two cylinders

The PCV is below. it is connected near the block and a hose running up to the back side of the carb.
Not sure what year your 2F is, but the PCV line from the crank case (pushrod cover) on my 79 2F connects to the intake manifold, below the carb insulator. If you're connected to the carb, that may be part of the problem.

hoses seem correct
where in the carb is the oil?
have the valves been adjusted?
how long have you owned the rig?

using a breather is just going to mask the real issue you are experiencing

If the engine is producing crankcase vapor faster than the PCV system can handle it, it will push the excess up through the valve cover to the air cleaner, which is how it ends up in the carburetor.

So, you should be seeing oil in the air cleaner too.

And since blowby contains unburned fuel, you should check your oil for gas smell.

since this is an overseas air cleaner assembly, would the oil actually be getting into the filter? versus just going down into the carb?

To be clear. the pics that were posted by @devo are not pics of the OP's engine.

It probably wont contaminate the filter element in that situation. The air does need to be filtered b4 going into the valve cover.

I missed the fact the pics weren't the OP's
