Take good care of that oil cooler assy 15710-54030.

I was crazy enough to buy a new one at ~$600 just so I could say I truly had a new 1FZ-FE long block minus the valve cover because NLA.

I’m probably only a handful of people to have ever bought one from Toyota. SMH ocd

why pay so much? it's only like 300$ out of japan.

New one on my engine as well. They get clogged up with sludge over the years, ya you can get them cleaned out pretty good but I like new parts on my new engine.

FYI, if you buy a new cover it comes with the check valves and related parts.

For hardware I have a small ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight. Fill with 505 degreaser from Home Depot and the hardware comes out nice and clean.

would the degreaser and the ultrasonic cleaner strip the hardware of their protective properties?

If you leave it over night it might. One or two five minute cycles and a rinse in fresh water has never been a problem for me.

I was crazy enough to pick one up for $335. I've read that some builders won't warranty unless you replace it, fearing some trapped bit of metal will escape and wreak havoc...

Not anymore. Mine came with zip. Fortunately the bits and bobs are not expensive.

For future searches: for the 1FZFE there's a bare oil cooler cover (15721-66010) that is just the cover, no extra bits.

And there's an oil cooler cover sub-assembly (15701-66010) which comes complete with the valves, springs, etc:
