The oil filter on my LC was tight as well...I was always taught the oil filters should be hand tightened and then a 1/4 turn more...on oil the gasket before installing. Maybe the folks in Japan have really strong hands...

I have done the "break-in oil" change at 650 miles and could not believe how small the filter was...It's almost comical! So I'll ask on this thread if anyone is aware of a different Toyota filter (taller) that would fit these trucks?
This one is a topic I can’t seem to wrap my head around. Why all the effort to change something that should theoretically not be an issue? Yes, the filter is small, but I have yet to see anything noting the small filter causing engine failures on any other current Toyota 4-cyl. It does the job as designed. Just my thought about it.

The smaller the oil filter canister, the faster it fills up if the anti-drainback valve leaks. Less likelihood of dry starts.
Small Toyota oil filers are better than big ones for this reason. If you cut one open you’ll see the filter media is packed very efficiently - there’s plenty of filter media inside the little canister.

Mine was very very tight.

I partially crushed the old filter with my removal tool.

Same. And I hadn't received the correct tool yet, so I was just trying to remove mine with a strap wrench (which I thought should have been more than sufficient). A few minutes into it I realized I was crushing the old oil filter, and there was no going back from that point. Eventually got it off, but it was a dicey oil change up until then.

So, for the hyper-maintenance people, first oil change at 500 to 1000 miles.

Second oil change when? Do you start with the 5,000 mile change intervals or is your second oil cycle abbreviated, too?

I changed at 1200. Next one will be at 5000. Probably not necessary with today's machining standards, but it feels like cheap insurance to me.

Unless you own one of those 3.5TT motors that come with left over machining materials.....sorry, couldn't resist.

I did the initial change at 850 and will probably just do the next two changes at the dealer at 5,000mi and 10,000mi since they're free.

I thought that they’ll only give one free oil change on a new Lexus since LexusCare only covers the 5k and 10k maintenance and the oil isn’t scheduled to be changed until 10k. If you claim driving under “harsh” conditions, can you get an oil change out of them at 5k?

Lexus quietly revised their recommended maintenance plan for the GX, 5000mi intervals are standard now.

my dealer told me to come in every 5k when I bought it.
There is a 5,000mi maintenance, but it doesn’t include an oil change. Only tire rotation.

This is the same maintenance as other Lexus cars, it does say if you drive under special condition/severe service change engine oil and filter at 5k, basically without the oil change the 5k service is a tire rotation and some inspection

I wonder if the 90915-10010 will fit. I'm going to pick one up to compare. them.

If you use a funnel to fill, it likely won't go down far enough into the oil filler cap hole to stay upright. At least mine didn't. A bit of a pain to hold it and fill with the 5 quart jug. Saw in another forum that a 1 quart bottle fits it well, so I may try to cut one in half next time to use as my dedicated 250 funnel.
Found a threaded oil funnel that should work, but you have to cut off the tip below the threads. It screws into the oil filler cap spot fairly snug. I went overboard, used a Dremel cut off wheel and smoothed the cut with a box cutter, then heat gun.

For some reason I didn't like the blue and clear neck ones on amazon. Prefer a larger opening to wipe out easily after use and to hold the jug.

I changed oil at home at 1,000 miles. Used synthetic oil and the 90915-YZZN1 filter.

Toyota recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles. I'm so used to 5,000 mile oil change intervals, not sure how I'm gonna handle this.

Not sure how I will handle either.
My 250 is mostly a work commute car.
12 miles round trip most days.
First change 2590. 0-20 Synthetic/90915-YZNN1.
