Spec oil capacity for 1978 FJ40 is 8.5 quarts. I consistently only need to 7-7.5 quarts to fill it up. Any theories? Did the oil pans change, with my truck possibly having an older pan that sits lower? Did dipsticks change?

My thought as wellDoes that include a qt for the filter?
No, I have no oil cooler. Was that an option, or was mine potentially removed?Does it have factory oil cooler?? My 78 40 did!! Less oil won't hurt anything, especially a quart or quart and a half. Which might be the cooler's capacity![]()
Was probably stock in '78 but they are easily deleted. No, I have no oil cooler. Was that an option, or was mine potentially removed?
Why? Bigger holds more oil, more oil is better.I'm replacing it with the newer, smaller YZZD3 filter.
