Does it have factory oil cooler?? My 78 40 did!! Less oil won't hurt anything, especially a quart or quart and a half. Which might be the cooler's capacity 🧐🤔😏😉
No, I have no oil cooler. Was that an option, or was mine potentially removed?

Are you replacing the spin on filter? Is it the original full size filter or one of these newer smaller filters? Last question are you filling oil then checking the level filling or filling to level? Run the engine for a few minutes and checking again? The filter holds and take a long time to drain. Filter because of its design holds oil.

When ever I change oil on a F from 74 on I poke a hole in the top of filter and let drain for a few minutes. Put tape over hole before removing. It reduces amount of oil that normally spills out and makes a huge mess.

I'm replacing it with the newer, smaller YZZD3 filter. But this till happened before I ran out of the old ones. I check the oil both ways: I check it after I fill the engine but before I start it, then I start it and recheck.

My 2 cents, go synthetic. I swore by 30 wt as I live in Cali and used 30 wt in all the engines, put in LS and found they don't like the 30 wt like the old SBC's do so tried Mobil 1 synthetic after seeing motors run with zero OP and not heat up for a good 10 min. My oil pressure came up a bit to, I have a 2001 LS 6.0 and it is stock, runs 40 psi at idle on synthetis, like 11 on reg 30 wt.
