I posted this pic in another thread. Might as well have it here for posterity.

You wont be disappointed with the falkens at all. The wife and I have each clocked about 5k miles on each of our sets including camping trips going back and forth to winter park for two seasons now and these have been great in all conditions. Coming up on our first rotations and they still look brand new as far as tread depth goes which is also nice. I now wish I had gone with the 275/65/20 instead of the 275/60/20s but too late now :(

And I'll give the credit to those ahead of me. I did do a ton of research on tires, and sleuthed the interwebs for the minimal information about the current AT3Ws. Falken did put forth a bunch of effort having gone through at least 2 revisions in recent years from the AT2 to the AT3Ws, especially when tire model years typically measure in dog years. Doesn't hurt that they are so reasonably price also.

I sure like those older LX’s. Wish I could put sliders on them and winch

Great question. I actually bought 4 tires so I could take it home and see if it fits in the spare carrier before I bought a fifth. If it doesn't fit I'll buy a rear bumper... then a fifth.

Even if it doesn't fit, it fits fine in the cargo area with the 3rd row seats removed. I put my spare there during winter so the underside is easier to clean. Locked to the 2nd row seat and wheel face down so there's storage space inside the wheel and a minimal loss of space.

Have a couple questions:

Anyone running the Yaesu FTM400DR HAM? Just bought one and excited!
Secondly, I'm brainstorming on different places to install this thing.
Any recommendations? I'm thinking of a custom mount on the A-Pillar or up higher by windshield.

All comments and ideas welcome.

Thanks!

Are you planning on running it full time or not?

I have a Yaesu 8800 and have it installed on the side of one of the drawers in the rear. The external speaker is installed below the sidewing of the drawer and seems to work out pretty well. I have RJ45 and RG58 running from the radio to a socket in the passenger kneepad and the engine compartment, respectively. The antenna is mounted to the fender side of the hood. The faceplate and mic are mounted to a piece of powder coated aluminum that attaches to the panel on the passenger side of the console with a ram mount. When not in use we replace the radio faceplate setup with a phone holder.

All that said, I'm considering some changes. I recently dropped the front headliner to run wiring the sPOD. I think there's enough room up there for a remote speaker for the radio. If I go that direction I'll probably move the radio up to the front and either mount behind the radio console, under the dash somewhere, or maybe even in the glove compartment.

Maybe i missed it but will these falken at3 275 65 20 fit in the spare compartment without mods?

Your 275/65r20 should fit in the spare location. there is a bracket that will need to be removed, but it is just two bolts.
a 295/70 r18 (34.3 by 11.6) will fit in the spare location.

New guy here. Great to see other LX’s with armor!
Here’s my 2011

^Nice build.

If I could recommend... The chrome wheels belie's the builds intent.

Perhaps some 1" wheel spacers would have the wheels fit the lines of the fender flares better?

Yes, looks great @I6turbo ! Those 305s, along with the spacers really give her a great stance. Nice and flush. Keeps them pesky curbs off the wheel lips. It's just the way I like it! ;)

Thanks! I bought it with this build, feel lucky much of the heavy lifting is already done. I’ll likely go to a smaller wheel and bigger side wall and loose the chrome wheels. I’m not interested though in spacers and the changes they make to the steering geometry, stability at speed, turning radius, etc. I’m a function over form kinda guy.

I'm with you and I've certainly been accused of being form over function on more than one occasion. And yes, that was a lucky buy with all that great gear already done by the previous owner.

Yes, spacers have a bad rep. Just know that it's functionally equivalent to wheels with the same effective offset. When putting bigger (diameter) tires on a rig, the geometry of the scrub radius changes such that optimal offset should be lower than the stock 60mm. Which is why Rock Warrior wheels are 50mm offset, designed for ~32" tires. At 33", optimal offset should be ~40mm. And so on. Spacers help in this regard, to provide clearance against the UCA, and maintain lateral stability, if retaining stock wheels.

EDIT, adding pics to stay on topic!

Love those Rays Volk wheels. I am tempted to get some in 18” size.
Can they be compatible to be used between vehicles if they had a different lug spread?
