I echo the comments of others that the wine tasting needs to be back again next year, and it's not just because I won the grand prize magnum of 2005 Miraflores Syrah from the tasting raffle (see photo)!

The (other) reasons are:
  1. All proceeds from the raffle went to the Rubicon Trail Foundation to support the fantastic work they do to keep the trail open
  2. There were several excellent and a bunch of very good wines to taste, all donated by local wineries
  3. About 15 bottles (my guesstimate) were raffled off to participants as prizes
  4. It was a fun social event attended by a great bunch of people
  5. And, in case you missed it, all proceeds from the raffle went to Rubicon Trail Foundation to keep the trail open!

Hats off to Eric, Jerry and Julie for organizing this inaugural event.

Hey Alex..Glad you made it home! Likey 7K miles or so. Well done. Nice meeting you and your dad. I hope you both had a good time.

Didn't I mention it would be worth your while to join us early?:D

Thanks for making the video.
Thanks Alvaro an Cruiser Drew for making it happen for me in my first Rubithon in my own rig. Eric, was great to meet you, looks like you'll be there for a while.
All the spotters, amazing job.

Rock chef was fun. I hope to return next year as well. The judges were a bit more colorful than in the sand! Must be the elevation....

gotta plug Eric at Yotamasters in Corona, he set up my thirds and did a ton of work on my rig and it worked out great. Thanks Rick and Dale for helping me finish up all the rest.

Truly one of the best weeks of my life.
Watching 9 FJ Cruisers pour intO Buck Lake and not pull out a single wrench while 4 "built" JKs were bustin thirds, shafts and axles was priceless.

Brent's new rig was sick. Mudraks light show, river showers thru heat exchangers....speechless.
Two days of the toughest decision was; tri tip tacos or chicken breasts, not which one...but when to start.

Get there next year! 360 days to go.....as Warren Miller says; " if you don't , you'll be another year older when you do"

Andy,

Yes, thanks again for leading the group and thanks to all who were spotters and were there for support. I was hoping that everyone had a great time because my dad and I sure did. In fact, he is already prepping for next year! I told him he would have to tow me out this time.... So, i think Cruise Moab is on for next spring!

I had just enough wheeling considering the driving i had to do, so it worked out great! Stopping by Moab on the way home and running fins and things.... let's just say alone i was puckered up more than once!

Anyone thinking about taking an 80 series, you better have good sliders and one hell of a rear bumper, cause you will use them, A LOT! A rear locker is an absolute must. I only used my front locker 4 times on the entire trip, but i was glad i had it when i needed it. BUT, the 80 just plain works! I was blown away by everywhere that you could point and shoot the truck. Good spotting is necessary, but the 80 series is a mountain goat! I think it can be done with a RTT and in fact having a RTT or being able to sleep in your truck on the slabs at Rubicon Springs is a real luxury.

I'm glad i got to meet Robbie and his family, Andy, Alvaro, Mike, Pablo, Cat Head, Iggy and Pighead, I never got to meet mudrak but i did get a chance to see his Bad ASS cruiser. Brock and Brian were great guys that we really enjoyed spending time with. The tennessee boys, Cam, Phil and Andrew were great and i hope they enjoyed their trip back the long way. Seth, glad to meet you and your family and thanks again for the dinner, it was ON TIME!!

Really, there were too many names to mention but i'm glad i got to meet folks i've chatted with on Mud for years.

Thanks again and i will post up some more pics later.

Man, what an trip! I can only echo what Alex said above me.

We finally snuck home early this morning under the cover of darkness. We hit Yosemite, Death Valley, and the Grand Canyon on the way home.

Thanks to everyone that put this show together. Y'all did a kick ass job. Also a special thanks to Andy, Tom, Rick, Alvaro (and probably a few more) for herding all the wagons down the trail.

Also a special thanks to Woody and a Good Samaritan, Tom, who helped me get the truck back on the road after a breakdown in OKC. The bearing in the idler pulley seized up, rendering the water pump useless, and caused the engine to quickly overheat. We acquired a belt for a non-PS 2F to bypass the idler and got home without losing more than a few hours.

I'm giving my dad the inofficial "sore butt" award. Our total odometer miles were 4,555, and he rode 95% of those in the clapped out back seat of the 60.

This trip was extra special not only because I got to see this awesome country and run the Rubicon with my dad and my son, but we got to celebrate Fathers Day on the road, my son turned 7 on the trail, and my truck turned 200K on its last leg of the ride home.

Hey Cam -- Thank YOU for the assistance on getting the Rod Bearing on the FJ40. The timing was impeccable, and gave us a chance to salvage the trip even if it failed later.

I never got a chance to give you a proper thank you for that -- please PM me your address, I've got something to send you.

Thanks for the Kudo's.....

Here is the list of wineries and the wine that they donated. If you like any (or all), please go online or whatever and order some. And let them know where you tasted them, cause the look on some of the people at the wineries were, "You are having a wine tasting event where!" We are going to give each one a CD with pics of the event and the trail. So hopefully they donate next year!

So here ya go:

Miraflores..Raffle...Magnum.... El Dorado County

A few pics from the trip out :grinpimp:

I also wanted to thank Tom emensly for his courage to come to the event. We appreciate you being there with us and letting our group in on some family events. My dad and I really took that to heart and it made our trip that much more solid. Also without Tom's excellent spotting i would have never made it through without damage. Actually the only dent i get was when Tom wasn't spotting me :hillbilly::meh:

It would be nice to see these (and more) pictures go up on a Rubithon 2013 album in the Gallery setcion of 'mud so they can be easliy viewed by all. For us, the trip in and out was absolutely the best ever and was so quick and uneventful we took very few pictures. We were setting up camp at the Springs at 3:00 Thursday afternoon after leaving Loon a little after 7am, and were having breakfast in South Lake Tahoe at 9:15 Sunday morning if that tells you anything.

The good luck part to the story is the front driveline snapped right at the Springs and was fixed by Saturday afternoon!
