Excellent... just booked it.

Welcome. Bring it

Hey all - so we have 13 confirmed so far. Looks to be a great group! Please make sure I have your t-shirt size so Slee can get his goodie bags together.

Also we should narrow down 4 trails we want to do and we can start voting from that list. See post #1 with details of each trail. Remember each trail will last 6-8 hours for the most part so more than likely we'll only have time for 1 trail on Saturday and Sunday. We may be able to squeeze a short one in the late afternoons. Start posting your vote and we'll tally up the top 4.

Another thought is we can split into 2 groups and do different trails and rotate the following day so we all get some time to get to know each other.
Any thoughts from anyone???

I haven't been there so I can be convinced otherwise based on what those of you who have been there think, but here's my list in order of preference.

1. Alpine Loop
2. Blackbear
3. Imogene
4 Gulches

Poughkeepsie Trail or bust.

Stockers might dent a running board (reason for @sleeoffroad sliders).

Anyone coming from San Antonio /Austin/ Houston area?

Might be fun to caravan. Still not 100 percent yes.....yet.

I'm up for any trails, but the wife is not going to do Black Bear Pass (and I think the implication is that if I run it without her I might be sleeping in my 200). Drop offs are a non-starter with her.

Anything else, any level of difficulty, I'm in.

@steenh - This list looks all-encompassing to me, from what I've researched.
good list

Please don't let my wife know that there is an option to not run black bear... my wife told me she'd walk it. I can't imagine driving 2k miles and not doing that one. If your wife talks to mine, I might have to push that one down the list. It would be a long walk back to Atlanta, and I'm too old to be single again. :)

I can't think of any trail that does not have a cliff or drop off. So this may be a problem for anyone. The reality is that if you forget which one is brake or gas or are texting while trailing- it could be really bad on any trail.

I've been the last three years in my 200. It is made for this stuff. Frankly, I can't think of a better vehicle if you did have to do a dukes of hazard to survive in.

I agree with @BTUMAN here. I can think of very few routes in the Ouray / Silverton / Telluride area that do not utilize shelf roads with steep drop offs. There are a few, but none of them are the truly scenic routes. Heck, even the paved highway (550) between Ouray and Silverton has some pretty good drop offs.

^this. Every trail will have some sheer drop offs to deal with. Imogene has quite a few. Black bear really only has the steps...the switchbacks feel like cake after those. Going up to Black Bear is easy and very scenic. Very much worth the 5 mins of pucker factor.

And I agree. 550 heading south out of Ouray is scarier for me than any trail :)

You ought to drive it in a 38 foot RV towing a 20 foot trailer with a 200 on it ... talk about pucker factor, especially when oncoming traffic wants to take 1.5 lanes

We've offerred to caravan with folks from the East Coast coming across and of course the NTX crowd. We can meet in Wichita Falls. Google maps has your shortest route intersecting ours from there. I just made that drive last week (To Denver via Raton) in the 200. Nice road trip drive :) From Amarillo we could either take Raton Pass for the North entry or ABQ/Durango for the South route? They are minutes difference so just a matter of preference.

Mt. Dora NM on Monday

James, is your plan to leave early on Friday to get to Ouray that evening, or are you going up on Thursday? Think you mentioned it's 14 hours from your place so just confirming your plans.

We can be flexible if it helps people in any way. If it was left just to us we'd leave Thursday morning. If Friday, to make Ouray by 6pm comfortably we'd want to leave by 3am ish Friday to accommodate the approx 47 gas stops we'll need :)

Thanks... let me check with the wife and see, but either way, you should do what makes sense for you... My vote would be to leave Thursday and I think she'll concur. 3:00am feels like a rough start to the weekend!

Figure 12 trucks. We can switch trails around but probably better if we split up the group and rotate so we all get a chance to ride together.

Also who has winches?

Saturday
1. Alpine Loop x6
2. Blackbear x6

Sunday
3. Imogene x6
4 Gulches x6

Other options:
Poughkeepsie

Not final just getting things down.
