Here's a few of mine. Not too many, was having a problem with the camera.
Day 1 with my Gotham buddies, Brian O leading in his FJ 40-something rh drive diesel
with Matt (spotter extraordinaire) ,
followed by me in my FJC,
then Joe M in his 55,
Don in his 80,
Jon in his 80,
and Mark in his 60.
Mini trail report...
Started off a bit iffy. Had to reset the electronics by disconnecting the battery. Couldn't get the A-Trac or Locker to work, all I got was a red blinking light. I was just about to turn around a write the weekend off, but the light magically went green and all started working.
We ran the intermediate to hard trails in FNF. The day was a bit wet (muddy) which made things a bit more interesting. The trails were harder than I expected, big boulders, deep holes, and shelves. I was a bit nervous I wouldn't be able to do the hard stuff, but Matt's expert spotting got me through all but one spot where I needed a it of a winch to get up a shelf where I just couldn't grab.
We ran about a third of the trails, hard right once you enter. Very steep, lots of big rocks and drops. Ran out to the blacks, turned around and came back. Mostly up hill coming back, started to rain, made things a bit more muddy and slippery. The last steep section up was tough, the last shelf at the top was where I needed the winch. All in all, a great day, no carnage to speak of, except Joe's front bumper which took a bit of a hit on a big rock that didn't move.
Day 2 we had more guys that wanted to run with us at FNF, but the group was getting a bit large, so we decided to run 2 groups. I went with the group that was going to start with the greens and maybe do some blue stuff. It was Brian O and Matt leading again, followed by me, then Tom (Sorry Tom, my camera died on Sat.) with Amy and Cody in the yellow FJ, Joe, and Don. We later picked up Ramel in his 40 with Norris.
The greens weren't too tough, but they ran out in about half an hour. We ran the rest of the blues we missed on day 1 from that point on. Same stuff, different trails, big rocks, big holes, some tight turns and step sections. Lots of fun in some very difficult terrain. No big damage to speak of again, Brian pushed in the rain gutter on the 40 on a tree on a tricky steep section where he slid a bit, and I'm pretty sure Ramel bent his windshield frame a bit and cracked his windshield in the same spot, but on a different line.
The high point for me was going through the very end where 2 big boulders and a big drop made it look like it would be impossible to get through without damage for almost everyone. Matt did a great job spotting everyone through. Nobody did any damage there, everyone got through. This was the spot where many trucks in other groups had top winch through going in the other direction. Pretty sure Rabid has some video of this spot, can't wait to see it.
Seemed to me like each of the different trucks had their strong points and weak points. As I a few times, I'd like to have one of each and wheel them all.
Awesome event. Two great days in the woods with some great people and trucks. Look forward to next year, but if it could be a week later so we could get the peak leaf season thrown in, it would even better.
