The two pigs, both are 78's, have radio antenna's in different locations. Both are on the PS side - one is on the top of the fender and the other is on the side of the fender just behind the cover for the vent. Can any one post a pic of the actual location.

TIA

Harry

Harry, do all '55's have the same antenna location? Mine is definitely factory as there are captured nuts there and the antenna is bolted to the drivers side "A" pillar. I just replaced it last year and was able to get it from the dealer.

Reviewing Cruiser_guy's ROTM I'd say his is the dominate antenna for OEM...same style as the 40's and many sedans. And most sedans I've seen have them (and slight antenna variations of design) mounted on the Driver A pillar as well.

Here's a picture of my antenna location. I'm certainly no piggy expert but I know that my truck has captured nuts to hold the antenna here and this is an OEM antenna that I bought last year from the dealer.

Mine 74' is the same way.

usmcruiser;3306579 On my '76 its on the passenger front fender.[/QUOTE said:
Yeah, I have an antenna like that on my 55-up next to the cowel. Think they might have been a dealership (americanization) like my york AC which I have the dealer reciepts for.

I bought my Piggy when it was about 10 years old. The antenna was on the left fender with two anchors: one about 8" from the top, and one about 12" from the bottom. The rust was so bad in that fender that I bought a brand new OEM replacement, and it had the same two holes in the same place. I filled the lower hole and mounted a spring loaded unit in the upper hole. I would think that Toyota planned on having an antenna there, but do any of you have these two holes? John

Those fenders aren't still available are they? :)

Now I'm curious!! Two other folks, both with '76 piggies have antennas in different places? Have either of you repainted or done any body work on your rig, particularly in the "A" pillar where my antenna is located? On my truck (we got it from Minot, ND) there is a nut welded on the back side at both the top anchor and the bottom anchor as well as a hole at the EXACT spot for the wire to go through and it all matches the antenna ordered, sight unseen, from the dealer for a '76 FJ55! There would be NO WAY for someone to weld nuts there aftermarket as it's inside the pillar.

I'd venture a guess the the other locations are aftermarket and were added when the OEM antenna broke and the OEM holes were filled over.

I can't see Toyota mounting a spring loaded antenna in the location of "usmcruiser" as it would tend to hit the fender as the truck bounces over the rocks and eventually scratch the paint. That area is so narrow as it is.

I cannot recall seeing any such holes when we rebuilt the '55 but then I probably would have discounted them anyways as the antenna location on my truck just makes sense!

What is the serial on these other trucks? Maybe Toyota changed in mid' 76? My truck is FJ55059423

This is what it looked like the day it arrived.

Howdy! Rumor has it your out of luck on getting more of them. I got it over 15 years ago thru SOR. It came in a Toyota box, and Toyota labels. Ah, those were the days. I'm really a dummy as I threw out the old one, which by today's standard, wasn't really that bad. Oh well. John

PabloCruise's antenna is the exact same as mine and in the same place....also I have pics of another....77 maybe pig here in berthoud with the same antenna...it's not the best picture but you can clearly see it's the exact same antenna in the exact same spot. I think it may be factory or a dealer option.

Maybe pigs with radios installed at the factory had the antenna mounted on the pillar, and dealer installed radios mounted the antenna in different spots for different years.. or there were suggested areas to put it.. My 70 and 71 pigs are located in the same exact spot, same antenna on the passenger side fender above the Toyota emblem pic 028.jpg

Had a stock 78 with the driver's side A pillar mounted antenna - matching cruiserguy's. Two 71s with them mounted on top of the lower passenger side fender. These 2 are exact copies and do not retract but fold horizontal.

my 76 is on the left A pillar, but my 73 body had it on top of the right cowl. i'll have to look to see where my 71 and 75 had em. highly doubt i'll have any pics of my 69 that would show one.

i'm thinking the toyota assembly line had a rotating schedule,

ya know, mark II mondays,, tercel tuesdays ect.ect. of course friday was corona day so on saturday when they built piggies they just used whatever antennas were left from the previous weeks runs.

Howdy! I'm starting to think your right on this one. Has anyone else seen the Factory holes in the left fender like mine? John

I have two brand new fenders, and neither have antenna holes? also parted out a 75 piggie, and neither it or my 76, 73 or 72 have consistent antenna locations with whats posted... wierd.

In the microfiche, I am pretty sure that both antenna styles pictured are listed.

John, just dug through my pile of fenders in search of factory holes. On the 70, 72, 78, and 7X?(later style emblem) fenders - no sign of holes.....none on the 71 either. However, in removing my other set of 70 fenders recently, I did notice two threaded holes(with backer plate) in front of the apron vent on both fenders(identical) Hope this helps add to the confusion:D
