O2 Sensor - Code P0135 - Replace all? (1 Viewer)

I just ordered the front sensors. I don't have any codes thrown yet, but my gas mullahs has dropped over the past few weeks from 15mpg to 13mpg. I have a 99 cruiser with 87k miles on it. I should have time to replace them over the holiday weekend. I will update this thread with any mpg improvements.

I gotta get mine done, too. I have the sensors sitting here, I just need to finish cleaning out my garage so I can actually pull the truck in and get it up on ramps.

I filled up last night at 1/2 tank, and the mileage result was abysmal. 11.6mpg. Hopefully the new 02s will help.

Well maybe it's too early to tell, but I was at 13.5 mpg before the new sensors, and I am now at 13.7 mpg.

It will take a few tanks for the ECM to process the data from the new sensors. Mileage should go up more over time.

Changing mine out, I went from 10.1 to 10.1. I guess they did not need replacing. Still trying to figure out how to get up to this magical 15 mpg figure that people say is attainable on modded 100s while driving in the city.

Paul - someone's pulling your leg. I get 15-17 on hwy on un-modded truck with 285's and DT headers (and I'm at sea level doing 65-70). 15mpg in town might be achievable if i let every Prius owner and bicyclist accelerate quicker during the stop-and-go's but I wouldn't ever expect that to be the norm.

I've never been accused of being the driver that pulls away from the stop light quickly so I typically see a reasonable mileage on my cars. I'm actually looking at some PCV maintenance to fix some rough idling and low end response. May see a 1 mpg increase but I'm happy to just be running flawlessly. I might do sensors just in case.

That's what I keep telling 2000UZJ. He swears he gets 15 in the city, lifted with 305s (or whatever size he is running). Every time I post something about MPG, he chimes n that he gets 15 in the city...WTF???...Nick, care to chime in again?

Somethin's up with mine too Paul. When I got it I was still getting 16ish on the highway even after pulling big tires on. And now I'm getting 13.5 highway and 10-11 in town, although my 'town' driving now is a short, but very hilly 5 mile drive to work. I've seen as low as the 9's if I don't mix anything longer in. Oi vey!

Easy job.

I replaced Bank 2 sensor 1 a couple months ago. All you really need is an O2 sensor socket and driver, and I think I used an open end wrench. Very easy IMO, and I have never done an O2 sensor on any vehicle ever.... It took me longer to remove the belly pan than to change out the sensor. I put the front wheels up on ramps, for extra clearance, but you probably don't even need that if you have big tires and/or set in Hi. I also pulled the inner fender flap just so I could see it better from the side.

Does anyone else's exhaust smell kinda rich? Mine smells awfully loaded up w/ fuel compared to my other cars, but I'm not sure if thats the norm for the fuel trims on the LC or not. Anyone else care to chime in? Sign of bad AFR, or normal?

Mine does not smell rich. Nor are there signs of it running rich. Hmm.

Yeah, I'm thinking I better get the new 02's on there pretty soon. My GD garage is still torn apart though.

 in the driveway!

It's rare that you get a apples:apples trip to compare. Each year I make the exact same trip up to central WA to retrieve grandma for the holidays. Last year it took me 13.436 gal to travel the 218 miles. This year it took 18.227. There was snow this year which slowed me over the pass from 60 to 45 and the last 5 miles was down to 30 due to snow/ice on the road. No stops, idling, etc. IIRC last year I was moving at about 72 and this year about 74. Only change to vehicle is sliders and CB antenna.

Mine does smell rich. I hope to change my front O2 sensors this weekend. Hopefully it will fix that problem and my 13-14 mpg problem on a stock cruiser (just 285 tires).

Rustbeltitis strikes again. Rounded off the damn PS skid plate bolt. Can't get to the sensors now. Time to find an angle grinder and an easy out kit.

^ yeah, I broke a bolt head off - was able to get the plates off, but had to drill out and tap the hole. A real PITA - see more of this in my future.

Fuzz, you should be able to get to them through the well. Don't even need to yank the tire, although it will be helpful. Just pull off the little plastic cover that keeps spray out of the engine bay and they're right there toward the rear of the well. 21mm or 22mm box/open and you're set.

Prior experience is one of the reasons why I love this forum. :D

I'll take a crack at it again later tonight. Gotta take the munchkins to get holiday pictures done first. Thanks man!
