As an interested party to this endeavor, I continue to stay in touch with John Papp via email. He is a pleasant gentleman, as much as one can discern from email communication. I was in Colorado Springs for other reasons and drove by the shop. No one was home:

Further, I received a few gifts from John in the mail:

Below is the latest update he provided to me yesterday (slightly edited for content):

"We’ve not transitioned from R&D to Sales yet – and we are 100 percent self-funded effort with absolutely no debt...As far as what is really going on is concerned, the vehicle is back in Colorado Springs, we completed our Go/No Go testing and work with EPA on next steps continues as of this very moment, we have filed an extension for our testing exemption, we are bringing in a 2018 LC79 and we painted the floor at our shop this weekend. So let’s see, what else. We will be at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff from the 18th to the 20th of May where we will be doing a demonstration of a suspension install. We are working with White64 in D.C. on our advertising campaign. We have articles running in Toyota Trails and Rova Magazine here shortly. So as I have said from the beginning, slow and steady wins the race."

I'm planning a visit back to Colorado Springs to meet John personally and take another look at the truck next week. I will continue to report on what I am told and what I see.

At least I can say I now own a dual cab 79 series, only problem is it fits in my pocket.

Cheers gents!

I am sure you have been following this thread. So, next time you talk to him, please have him shed some light on the story SteteJackson passed along claiming that Papp has ripped them off, have successfully secured judgements in multiple states against him and Mike in court, and are pushing to have him charged with federal wire fraud. Would help with the whole credebility thing:hmm:

His response via email when I asked about this very thing:

"I have no idea how anyone could accuse us of any nefarious dealing or involvement in any lawsuits"

I will certainly discuss this in greater detail when I meet him next week.

I'm so surprised by this response lol.

Please do! Ask them the name of their class at Expo West. I'd love to stop by. I tried to find them at SEMA but they were like ninjas.

Some people have more time than me...

I do find it interesting that their tag line is “Take Liberties”. No sh!t! Take liberties with the truth.

I mean, can a scam really be this deep and intricate? For a gain of what? Maybe a few hundred thousand dollars?

I just don't get it.

I cn only guess this endeavor may have been started with some vision, or at least the desire to make some money off the cruiser community. Assuming this was started with at least some good intentions, I'm sure they are just at the point now that they are getting deeper and deeper in the hole, maybe taking some liberties with the troof trying to keep it alive over the prospects of turnng a quick buck to recoup their costs.

My guess is it will either crumble under its own failure to deliver at some point, or the demand for the trucks at the price they are asking will not be enough to recover the time, effort, and money put in, leaving those who put down deposits holding the bag:meh:

If they truly did walk away with somebody’s money and didn’t make it right, they won’t find any kind words here that’s for sure. We are a vindictive bunch when it comes to people scamming the Cruiser Community and will go DEFCON level Sodomy on this guy:flipoff2:

There’d be less work and less risk in robbing little old ladies. Dudes aren’t even smart scammers.

"...Booth #G19 at Overland Expo West in May, the last Basic booth that was available in the main exhibitor area."

Awesome, I'll defibitely stop by, I wonder if this is a real booth or a "booth" like their non-existent SEMA "booth".

The thread title will need to be updated fairly soon. By the time the stars align the 2019 VDJ79 will be available and you'll no longer need to purchase that old 2016 model.
