I have a green "t" plug under the dash that I think was a radio plug. Would this be a good place to connect my switched power for my electric power steering sensitivity control? Small 22 ga wires, not the 10 ga power wires to the motor.

I cant say for sure. On my 77 it only had a single radio wire. That may be for an emission system or seatbelt buzzer. I had a few green plugs that really didnt do anything as my emissions stuff had been removed. I would run wiring for EPS on its own circuit.

Sorry for the multiple posts!! Not sure how I did that

I agree but if it is a power with a ground and a stock plug (I have the female version to fit) it would be really cool without tapping into some other switched circuit.

I say if it's not currently being used and is hot when you need it to be, use it.

That green plug looks like the fused radio plug on my 1979. Although my plug is white and had a tang on it to connect to another plug.
The wire colors are;
-Blue with red stripe (12V + with IGN ON)
- 2 wires into 1 female connector... White with black stripe (Ground)

The speaker plug is a 3 wire plug with two of the three plugs being used wired direct from factory speaker.
The wire colors are;
- Blue with grey stripe
- Grey

What are the wire colors on that plug?

Also, what year 40 again?

It's a '77 Danny

The wires are a lt blue/red and a white/blk

Have the dash out and the battery disconnected, no steering column in at the moment so testing is a tad difficult. Not impossible, just difficult. I would have had the column with the eps in last night but determined I needed to notch the brake pedal as mentioned by someone else. Would like to use this and get it wired before I install the column.

I did have to notch my pedal - but I'm pretty sure if the lower portion of the column below the EPS was 3/16" longer I would not have had to. But.....since everything was cut, welded, painted, etc - it was too late. It's also harder to add vs. subtract length!

Exactly my predicament. Had everything test fitted, welded it up and ended up with obstruction I thought I had avoided. But hopefully I will be back on the road by Monday. With power steering!! :bounce:

I see, on my iPad, you have a '77... I couldn't see that on my iPhone.

Are you sure it's blue-red and not red-blue? e.g. The narrow stripe color is what?

Blue-red is used for several components... As is red-blue... Just different components.

White-black is definitely ground.

If you have your dash out, are you sure the green plug isn't used?

Do you have a radio, a cigarette lighter, a carb cooling fan?

Since you are wiring 22ga wire, it sounds like you are merely looking for a relay trigger, to turn power steering on... True? Do you know how many amps are required? Probably not much, if it's just to trigger some sort of relay... I presume you are pulling full power from the battery, to run the power steering.

I'm not trying to overthink this, just don't want you to use something that's needed elsewhere.

If all you need is a HOT (ignition NOT off) "trigger", consider the back side of your fusebox... IIRC, there are two unused (on my '78) male blade connectors... IIRC, one is cigarette lighter, the other is radio...

I think one or both are switched power... I can check mine, if you need me to... You could attach a female and be hot, with the key NOT off... And pick up a ground under the bottom fusebox bolt.

I have a cooling fan that with all of the wiring intact but have not troubleshot why it doesn't work yet. I have a functioning lighter, no radio. I believe I read somewhere that there were provisions in the harness for the radio. That's why I'm thinking that's what I found. I'll have to look at the back of my fuse box for empty lugs. The radio would be switched but I believe the lighter is always hot. It has a fuse but no fuse for a radio.

The two fuse box blade terminals, on the back, are lighter (always hot) and heater (switched).
I'll see if they're on my '77.
Thanks

I just looked under my dash - I have that same green plug on my 12/78 build FJ40. Do you need me to check if either side gets 12V power w/ the ignition on?

I have a functional/connected carb fan, seatbelt buzzer, and radio so it is NOT for any of those items.

I do NOT have factory fog lights - and the area is roughly correct where the switch should go. Possibly it is for that???

Yes please, that would be great!
Thanks x-man

Unfortunately I don't have my voltmeter handy - forgot it's not here. I tried to check the wires w/ a 12v accessory and some paperclips shoved into the terminals. Ignition on/off and checking with and without assuming one of the wires is a ground vs. either possibly a 12+ feed. Couldn't get my gizmo to power on. Very sloppy and imprecise way to test - but I don't think either is a 12+ ignition switch feed.....but it's possible.

What are your wire colors?

Mine are:
Blue w/ Orange Stripe (LO)
White w/ Black Stripe (WB)

I did find the plug on my wiring diagram - but it's not connected to anything in the schematic??

I can try and get to it w/ my voltmeter but it might be a couple days.

Perhaps a @Coolerman question?

I'm pretty sure mine is blue with a red stripe (possibly your orange) and white with a black stripe which is a very common ground wire in these things. Thanks for checking it out. It will be pretty easy to check once I have everything assembled and won't be that hard to use if I decide to go with it.
