I saw on this site Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests - Alerts & Notices that Tray mnt is closed. Do they just tolerate people running it, or is there no signs posted? I was hoping to try that one out in a couple weeks.

The way they close the backside is a little different than most other FS roads. They actually don’t have a standard iron gate, but a barrier they put in the middle of the road when it’s closed, and then they completely remove it when open.

We figured it was closed but we’re camped nearby so we rode by just to check. Road was clearly open with no overt signs of being tampered with.

Not sure why the USFS site reports it’s closed.

Ben help find me a smoking deal on an 80 Locally with lockers of course. I was late on yours by a couple of days but remember seeing it for sale.

I might be in if everything works out this week. Could be fun to check out the trails N. GA has to offer.

Though not terribly technical, there is a fun route from Nimblewill Gap Rd westward into the top of Amicalola Falls SP. The FS doesn't mind a few folks trickling in the back door, but I wouldn't try to abuse it (they normally collect a small day use fee when you come in the front entrance). Not any ledges, but a few slick rock spots and a couple mud holes depending on the recent rains. As you make the turn into the SP towards the top of Nimblewill Gap Rd, check out the marker commemorating a plane crash back in the 70's.

The top of Hawk Mtn has a couple rock ledges, and there is a good camp up there too, near the bald area. If you are lucky, you will see some helicopters come out of the Ranger camp just down the valley from this peak.

Another nice feature not far from Hawk Mtn is the swinging bridge over the Toccoa River. Google Maps doesn't show this dirt road on the regular map view, but switch to satellite view and you will see the turn off Rock Creek Rd HERE. Drive until you see the Benton MacKaye Trail cross the road (wooden steps on the left side of road). Hike down to the river and check out the bridge. If you keep going on this road it will eventually come out onto Doublehead Gap Rd (although it looks like you are coming through the back of someone's property, I'm pretty sure it is just an un-maintained county road).

If you are going up to Tray Mtn, I've found Whetstone Gap to be a good spot for camping. It's a single track off the Corbin Creek Rd, so you will need to stack trucks accordingly. There's room to turn around, but it requires a multi-point turn. It's a scenic little point on a small ridge, and it's off the main road a bit, so you don't get hit with headlights every time someone drives by.

Hey GA.. sorry bud been busy this month but mid June onwards I should be more open to do more trails and camping etc. will hit the group up for riding..

I can’t make tomorrow but looks like I’m head to Coppinger Cove Monday.

Yeah I’m probably out too.

What were you in the 80 or 100? I saw a built green 80 today but I thought yours was white. Could’ve just missed it though

I’ll be available to go riding and camping some time in June when I get back from taking my family on vacation. One thing I’ll be building is a sleeping platform so will need to test that out before taking my daughter

A friend and I ran Tray Mountain a couple weeks ago and it was definitely not closed. I'd be up for a run in a couple weeks, taking it easy this weekend and next weekend have to run to south GA, but after that I'll have a need to get into the mountains.

I bought a non LC and now have another Toyota to go ride soon.

Why does your LC have water in it Ben? This is not good.
