Hi All -

After a year of searching, I was finally able to land a low mileage 100 series 04' and it's been my DD for the past 6 glorious months. The itch is back to try something older, and even before the 100 series, the 62 has always been of interest to me. So with this post I am trying to avoid the pain of the long search, in hopes there are still a few 62s out there with owners that are not overly money thirsty.

While I'm in Norcal, i dont need the vehicle to be local (though obviously preferred). What I am hoping to find is something with less than 125K original miles, zero rust, and very good interior. I'm less picky on the particulars otherwise (i.e. minor dings are expected/some fading paint/minor maintenance/etc). Mechanically I would expect to find something very well maintained with clear records showing that. In my search for the 100 series, I went through a handful of PPIs and dealing with some folks that claimed ignorance on issues that showed up once we started to actually dig in. I would love to avoid that this time as there are plenty of LC professionals that can smell B.S. and it tends to get uncovered in the DD.

In terms of cost, I'm thinking somewhere in the range of $18-$25K, with the upper range obviously being for something closer to excellent condition. I'm in no rush and welcome the opportunity to engage with the community, so would gladly take on any advice/questions/comments as I go through this process.

I have an 88 that will be available around Christmas. It has right at 150k miles on it. It is getting painted right now. It had the bad clear coat that so many of this vintage had. Interior is really good. It runs good. It is going to axle seals (aka a knuckle rebuild). It has newer BFG ATs 31x10.50s. My friend owned it for the last 12 years and I started doing a sort of resto on it this summer. It has always been well taken care of although he wasn't a good record keeper, I do have some records. He changed the oil ever 3k. It is a good vehicle. It is going to be on the low end of your range.

Man...you just missed one. There was a 2 tone on CL for ~14000 that had 114K miles. I wasn't working at the time and would've picked it up if I was. They pop up every now and then. You just have to be ready to pounce. And bring a rag and a magnet. People often say no rust or body work, but that isn't always the case.

works out that way sometimes, its usually just the universe testing your nerves!

There are definitely some out there, just a matter of how long it takes. Thanks for looking out though!

A local FJ62 with less than 80K miles was given away this past summer by a lawyer, as a bonus to a new worker. :D Just a bit of body rust on front fenders, clean underneath and a good drive train.

Please don't say things like this. It upsets me. :)

Agreed! Or at least pass along this attorneys contact info, I have some beach front property in Idaho I'd love to sell him.

Unless of course you'd like to part with the FJ...
