Howdy!

I was directed here by a friend, I've got a vehicle slightly older than me. Known issues are possible seized rear drivers brakes, bad fuel sending unit (which I just discovered the access hatch in the back seat, saying I was relieved and driven slightly mad would be an understatement :bang:), and the key on her crankshaft ground smooth, so that had to be rigged to work. She also has a c-clamp holding the top of the engine to the bottom.

However, the words "give up" in relation to me and this truck are not in my vocabulary. So this thread will be the journey to make her whole again. I'll post some pics later when I get a chance to take some.

I request a picture of this C-Clamp head stud, for science, of course.

It seems I can't post URL-based images until I hit Day 2. Let's see if I can resize the existing image on my phone.

Foreground is the fuel injectors.

Story of the truck:

We acquired her in or before 1994. We kept her to just about 2002 or so, when my dad sold her to a friend at work. Around that time, her engine was "rebuilt" by an auto shop. Shortly thereafter, with her acting nearly the same, and now leaking oil, sold her back to my father. I've worked on her shocks, brakes, master and slave cylinders, fuel pump and fuel tank. I have never worked inside the engine or transmission. I know at some point me and the engine will be having a coming to Jesus.

What is the story on the c-clamp? Does it have a head gasket problem?

The 22re is an easy engine to work on. Get comfortable with it.

I've seen a C clamp used for a lot of things on cars but as a sort of head clamp... damn fine work sirs!

Don't know the story about the clamp. I'm the first to notice it, so I'm going to assume it came from the "rebuild".

I can't take credit for that particular rigging.

C clamp used as a head bolt.. Guess there's a first for everything!
I would figure out why that c-clamp is there before you start trying to do anything else with it.. T-otherwise.. :deadhorse:
