i have not got my fsm yet so i had a question.

the pig i picked up a couple of years ago had the motor out.
the motor was disassembled, so i picked up another motor.

both are 1f motors.

the motor that i just bought is complete and has an oil filter mounted to the side of the block.

the parts from the old motor had the oil filter mounted to the intake manifold. and the new motor has the same bolt holes in the intake manifold.

noob question is: does the 1f have two oild filters, is there a better way to mount it, should i take both of them off?

edit: i guess i should be clear two of the questions are a joke.

but is there a preferred choice for which way to go with the oil filter.

Don't know what year they switched the filter to the exhaust manifold but it's closer to where the oil lines enter/ exit the block. Does yours' also have the oil filler tube on the pass side? I'd keep the location on the manifold, that's where both of mine are on my rigs :meh:

the old motor was disaasembled and ready to be put back together, it was supposse to be the stock motor out of the 71 fj-55. and the oild filter is bolted to the intake manifold with a couple of flex lines attached to that.

the new motor i ggot from zuluzeuma, he said it was an 1f and i think he could probably put it in blindfolded. so i think he is right. but that motor has the oild filter assembled on the block. passenger side.

let me see if i can find the numbers off the old block, that would probably help.

on a different problem.

i noticed the stock headliner wraps around the front windshield channel/ridge (?) and is glued in place before the windshield is installed.

do you know if the aftermarket headliner is the same? or can i put my windshield back in before the headliner?

OK, here is a pic of an F.5 or 1.5F. See how the oil filter is on the manifold side and the oil fill is on the top? I think your old motor was the 1.5 and the "new" motor is a 1F. the 1.5 is a better motor IMO. This engine has the F155 sticker on the cover.

And here is an F out of a 40. See the oil fill on the left of the engine?

a search of ".5" or "1.5" brings back zero

The 1.5F, also known as a "late F" has the same displacement as the early F but the oiling system of the early 2F. Sort of a transition engine between F and 2F. Better than an F, not as good as a 2F. Good engine though, my 12/'74 pig came with one.

Manifold side oil filter is F. distributor side oil filter is F.5, which more specifically is 9/'73 and later.... both of k9crazy's pics are F motors, not F.5

Its an F engine IF:
1. no oil filler cap on valve cover; or
2. oil filter is on manifold side

Its a F.5 IF:
It has steel stamped valve cover and oil filter is on distributor side.

f.5 refers to 2F oiling system on a F bore block. so, it has to have the oil filter on the distributor side, and the the bore of a F engine...

a picture is worth a thousand words.

here is the motor i got from zuluzeuma (thanks again josh)

this was the manifold that came with the pig

this is my new clutch

thanks for the help

ok that's actually a flywheel and clutch disk, but you can see a piece of the new clutch.

i am missing a piece, i still have not got my fsm so can you guys let me know which part goes here.
edit: i have a pretty good idea of what it should look like. and after going through two barrels of parts i can't find it.

Really? Because I was told by two reputable Atlanta area LC mechanics that my engine is an F.5 and it's the first picture?

I'm seeing an oil filter next to the dizzy...and with stamped valve cover indicates a late F/F.5

looks like the oil fill cap? since there is not a fill on the valve cover.

You're right. Oil fill cap not oilfilter...so it is an early F engine. My bad.

ok - so is mine an 1.5f or a 2f :D

oil filter next to the dizzy and the oil fill through the valve cover, no stamping on valve cover

Now THAT is a Late F engine.
