In trying to fit 33/10.5/15's on my stock 85 4runner, I have done a lot of research on homebrew lifts. Unfortunately, every one I have read, seems to be about 63" chevy's on the back, and rears up front. All great ideas, but both seem to involve moving spring perches or steering boxes or other modifications. The other problem I seem to have is getting a measurement straight. Some people reference an eye to eye measurement, and some use the flat distance.

It seems to me , there should be a set of leaves that will bolt right in with maybe a bigger shackle, that will give 3" lift. Even if the whole pack isn't ideal, hopefully there's a set that has the proper main leaf arc and eye to eye length, as well as leaf width. From there I figure I can maybe build a custom spring pack to work. I have read a lot of varied sites that make their own custom spring packs, but want to stick with Toyota springs if possible. Maybe certain years/models of Toy leafs fit up front better than others.

I'm not looking to get huge amounts of travel/droop, and dont want to raise my Centre of Gravity any more than necessary.

Why do you want to stick with Toyota springs and still get 3" of lift? I think those goals are going to be mutually exclusive.

If you want to run 33's and want a nice ride then go with an OME setup. Either buy the entire kit with anti-inversion shackles or just make do with 4 new springs and shocks.

Here's a side view of my 85 4Runner with the full kit....heavies up front and mediums on back. I have 31" BFG MT's on but I could easily run 33".

Well, to answer your question frankly, "why not?" If I can source some leafs from some 2wd or 4wd truck of the right year and add a longer shackle, I get my lift/newsed springs/stay Toy. Why not?

same reason most people don't do that.

Ultimately, I'm already making my own shackles that are 5" eye to eye. So just need a spring with a slightly longer flat length and slightly longer eye 2 eye length to give me the extra 2" needed to get 3" all this is approximate. I can also add an extra leaf here and there to adjust height in smaller amounts. I can fit 33's on there right now. That doesn't mean I can turn or compress the suspension though. My worry is that all the descriptions of peoples setups don't make mention of what they had to relocate etc... to make it work. Ishould add that the only reason I'm not using my stock springs in all this is that they are very sagged and each leaf has worn a lip into the bottom of the leaf above it.

I can't say for the front, but I made 3 inch over stock shackles for the rear of my 4Runner and it works well with my 33X10.5's.

I think the rears up front will move the axle forward a few inches as well....

So you're still running your stock springs? Either way, I'd like to swap out my springs due to the reasons mentioned, but if shackles will really do the trick by themselves, it may be easier to source replacements without worrying about fit and axle location. I had pretty much settled on rears from an 89-95 for the rear and rears from a 79-83 for the front. Since that setup would move my pin(therefore axle) 1 3/8" forward, can I just redrill a hole somewhere further back and solve all the hassle? If so, how far back can I/should I drill the new hole without worrying about weakening the spring or any other unthought of problem?

Do some more reaserch and add YJ springs into the formula.
I think you'll find what you're after, except the keeping it all Toyota part.
