The thing about straight pipes on intakes is that they don't provide as good of a throttle response as an air chamber.

A large air chamber between the filter and the throttle plate would actually provide more HP than this design.

takes a lot more than rain to hydrolock a motor...

Nope not at all, infact that is usually where it starts. Ford had a problem with their Explorers in the rain. Water would start to accumilate in the filter area and during driving the engine would get a nice gulp of it and lock. This is why it's important to make sure that valve on the lower part of our canister is draining properly.

Maybe Lx is ok but no way I'd set my truck up like that.

a steady stream about the size of a large straw of 50/50 water brake fluid going directly down the carb on my '74 1F sure didn't do it...

(old school method to clean engine- similar to seafoam etc)

Not saying its a good idea, and the water could certainly play hell on sensors etc, but in my experience it takes quite a bit of water to hydrolock...

LX-Treme, Does your CAI have a bypass valve?
I read some on Honda and there are ALOT of hydrolocked engines w/ the cold air intakes. These are all on-street, going thru a puddle or something.

maybe search hydrolock, CAI, bypass valve, etc

good luck

Turn the scoop around and you should be fine. There's a large area of negative pressure directly in front of the windshield but you seem to be far enough distance from it. As others have said, box in the filter area so that you are only sucking in cold air. Otherwise, you're sucking in hot air from the exh area and not doing yourself any favors.

Hats off to you for cutting the hood!

My truck did not pass Smog when I had my intake on, had to put factory can back on. Sound awesome though especially at higher RPMs.

I would not worry about hydro-lock from rain. I have 4 - 3"x5" holes in my 40 hood for over 10 years. There is a K&N open filter under the holes. I'm sure some rain get in but the engine seems to like it. Over the years I have driven in hard rain at freeway speed for extended periods of time and never an issue. Water injection?:D
