Same here. Ran them in my old Accord and one blew within 6 months. Light output wasn't all that much better than stock. Not a fan...especially for the price.
Like Brock said earlier the LX470's use a different low beam bulb...H1 versus the 9006 in the LC. I ended up using the Narva Rangepower+50 for the low beam bulbs. Like them...though not a huge step up from the stock bulbs in the LX. To note, they are not bluish as someone posted earlier.
However, when the 9005's go out for the hi-beams, I will definitely be getting the HIR1's for that. Fog's will ultimately be replaced with offroad lights on whatever front bumper I end up getting.
Swapped my 4Runner to HIR high and low beams over a year ago, big improvement, very obvious. I spend a lot of time on the highway, have hit five deer, totalled two cars, so headlights are pretty important to me.
Looks like amazon comes out cheaper than the others.
Top, are you switching to HIRs too? I plan to get the 9012 for low beams as I'm still in love with my LED DRLs, which don't do worth a damn for hi-beams, but still.
.
I think I'll get the HIR2 9012's from Amazon and give them a go... my biggest complaint right now are that my low-beams seem weak, especially on Colorado roads where there are no reflectors and the lines rarely get repainted. It's pretty rare that I actually have a chance to use my high-beams and they seem plenty bright anyway.
Regardless, nowadays it seems like half the cars on the road have low-beams that are as bright as my high-beams... or they have driving lights that are brighter than their low-beams and they never turn them off.

Well, now your low-beams will be brighter than most high-beams. My lows are so bright I feel like I'm blinding everyone, but I rarely get flashed, so I guess I'm ok. Reflectors are so bright it gets annoying, I don't want to lose my night vision. The HIRs are very white, but not blue like HID, there are some optical compromises when you get into the blue range.
Honestly it's such a cheap mod in the name of safety I cant understand why anyone wouldn't do it. I have the philips HIR in the low beam and together with Toshiba's they make a nice combo. I have the brightest DRL's in town
On my to do list is to convert my low beams to bi-xenons for LO and HI and then install 55W High beams in my existing HI for HIx2. You are welcome to beat me to it.
I put the HIR2's in yesterday and tested them last night... VERY nice light quality and pattern. They are way brighter than my anemic stock low-beam bulbs, but they don't seem to obnoxiously bright (no one flashed me at least).
Thanks for posting these pics. I can certainly see the HID difference. My problem is that I am unwilling to go through the retrofit hassle, and many posters (and Daniel Stern lighting) have said that putting HID bulbs in my halogen projectors will blind other drivers. That's why I decided to just replace my stock bulbs with HIR.
OTOH, many posters on Mud and Club Lexus have installed HID's in the stock LX470 projectors and like them very much...
You shouldn't expect the HIR to be white in color. I dont think anyone could deny that HID lamps, properly implemented, are the way to go. In the case of the Land Cruiser the stock reflector isn't up to the task - you get tons of glare/scatter. It looks great to you but to everyone else it blows.

If it is that bad to everyone else, you would think I would get flashed a lot...I never have. I did take a lot of time aiming them though. The cutoff is pretty good too.
1.5yrs with a DDM Tuning 55W kit. Never flashed. I pulled them and did HIRs for a week. Couldn't stand them. Cutoff was no better against a wall. But my headlights aren't exactly in great shape.
I think drunks, crazies, cell phones, and speeding kids are more to worry about than my 19.99 hid kit. The 100's "reflectors" are good enough for HID's. Not perfect, but just good enough...
Picture of a Z71 with HID's. My high beams went full blast. That to me, is fawking dangerous.
