No HID for me - which replacement bulbs?

FYI: The trimming is a non-event. Just a small pair of side cutters and you'll be tricked out. One of those things that will be completely obvious when you hold the new HIR bulb up to the OEM bulb.

I bought the Amazon bulbs last fall and they're the real deal. There's a noticeable improvement in light. Slightly higher K, but not blueish. Very stealth. You won't get flashed. Would definitely recommend it.
+1 for the HIRs. I use templates that I found online to get them to fit. In NC the low beams definitely are brighter; but not blinding to oncoming traffic. The highs are really great also! Especially navigating the winding roads in the more rural areas of NC.

I also got both of mine from Amazon (the Philips).

There used to be a stock of Toshiba HIRs; but those are next to impossible to find anymore.

So...anyone found HIR in the H1 size (for LX 470s) or is our best bet a HID fitting?

I didn't find any, but did end up with a H1 3Five Morimoto HID bulb and ballast for $150 that fit in once 2000UZJ explained how they fit. I had to take out the headlamps to get them in, and they fit in 90 degrees rotated from how I originally thought they did.

Thanks All great thread lots of info here... I just ordered the HIR2 for the low beams.

Bummer, was hoping to not do HIDs but all the extra lumens is probably worth it. I'll take a peek at those, thanks for the info.
