no crank, new starter.

I have a 97 that just clicks. I thought it was the starter but I just replaced it and same issue. Video of issue.

Other than taking it to a shop I’m not sure where to go from here. Thanks.

Starter only has 2 wires (and its body goes to ground (the engine). So, checking electrical and deciding if the starter is ok is pretty easy:

1) Verify that the big fat ground lead from the battery to the block is in good condition and bolted well to the battery negative and the block.
2) Verify that the big fat +12V lead from the battery is in good conditional and bolted well to the battery positive and the starter motor
3) Verify that the thin lead that energizes the solenoid in the starter is attached well and that it goes to 12V (with a meter) when you attempt to crank.

Verify battery is ok. Is this a reman Denso starter or ??

Could also be NSS that doesn't think the transmission is in neutral/park.

Run a wire from battery to 12v logic on starter the small wire and apply it to the battery if the starter cranks then You know the starter is fine. Then start looking for the culprit maybe your factory or aftermarket alarm is the issue? Ignition switch? Fusible kinks? Neutral safety switch?

Reman denso came off a donor truck. Someone referred me to the no crank troubleshooting guide and I’m going to start checking fuses and links. Little corrosion on the ones under the hood. Going to borrow a multi meter later.

Strangely enough the unit that came off of mine was a small one that did not look like the one I bought.

I was messing with the aftermarket jank ass alarm right before this happened. It did start after that then didn’t start again.

I’m not sure how to do it without ****ing it up worse. The door locks also don’t work without it. The **** was Toyota thinking when they allowed these to be installed.

Factory Alarm Removal WITH PICS

Let me start off by saying I read the Rs3000 manual and slee's instructions (in reverse) as well as all the threads I could find on here.

I have removed all the factory alarm harnesses, reconnected the main plug that had the relay connected to it and the truck is doing the same thing the others have mentioned, it cranks but wont turn over.

I don't see any other wires I need to remove or any splices or cut lines ro the ignition. Here are a few pics. Thanks in advance. Just ask for more pics and I will have them over and posted...

You can get a aftermarket alarm for the lock for pretty cheep or there is a vendor on here that sells a door lock kit with no alarm. I use this with zero issues.

If you're getting a good solid "thunk" then the solenoid is pulling in and the starter logic side is good. You're missing the +12 from the battery positive terminal to the starter motor terminal.
