Good track there Travis...Albert King was a great! Wish I could make it out there...but work and sleep are in the way. I guess the good news though...I get to work on the cruiser tomorrow afternoon...seats and gas tank likely installed...

My only hope for tonight is that I don't hear Luke say, "OK, we're not going to be able to make it this way. Travis, why don't to reverse it back down to that open area so we can turn around"..... :D

See you guys at 3!

NIGHT RUN!!!

Turn out was good: Eric & his kids, Sam & Sandy, Leon & Peggy, Andrew & Frank, me and Luke (a.k.a. "Mr. Wonderful" a.k.a. "The Off-Road Rebel") lead the way for us.

Pretty warm and muddy out to start with. Some of us got to splash a few puddles before we were even to the air down spot.

I'm summarizing here a bit:

Took Illinois Gulch to start, really muddy and slushy... fun stuff! Well, fun until I go out to wash the truck here in a bit...

Then took 347 up through the narrow, rooty area, to the top of that ridge. Had some fun watching Luke and Eric take the trickiest of the three possible lines to the top.

Back down 347, and at this point the sun had been down for a while and I believe it was refereed to as "Mariner's Dusk" ;)

We then hopped on 35i up to Rampart, followed Rampart up to where the gates are closed (by the radio towers). We started a fire, grilled up some brots and hot dogs and shared a few laughs.

After putting out the fire and loading back up, Leon and Luke had a axillary lighting competition. 30" LED bars vs. Leon's 2 (6-8ish") HID's. While Leon's HID's were plenty bright (especially after removing the severely yellowed covers), Luke's LED bar light up the entire night sky... very impressive.

We then took Rampart down to the trailhead of 324. Here, it was getting a little late, so Leon, Peggy, Eric and the kids decided to head home. The rest of us took 324 down to 324B where we took that to a really neat outlook (unfortunately, most of the view was obstructed by low laying clouds) still, with the full moon out... awesome view.

We continued around 324 to 323 to complete the loop. Most of 324 was covered in crusty, rutted snow and was tossing a few of us about. Then about 15 minutes before the end of our trip, I broke yet another antenna...:bang:, only damage of the day for the whole group.

Good Times Indeed!

Thoughts:

1) I am buying an LED light bar ASAP. Part of me thought they were just the latest "must have" gimmick fabricated by the off-road mags and the aftermarket companies they support. But after following Luke for most of the night, my mind has been changed. A "must have" for night time off-roading... well unless you like that stock 70's FJ40 low yellow, non-halogen light experience (right Sam ;)).

2) If you want to buy any rear hatch brackets for LED's, Antenna, etc. what until Andrew starts producing them. He fabbed some up that looked great and I hear he's planning on making a bunch more. :hhmm:

3) If you're at the gas station filling up, be sure to buy a soda early. If you decide you want a soda, but Leon has decided it's time to go... he will publicly humiliate you for wanting a soda at a time that he doesn't deem appropriate. :frown:

Funniest quote of the night:

Luke, "Eric, you've got a perfect bulge"........:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Sorry no pics from me.

You guys are not allowed to wheel alone with each other.

I got the opportunity to use one of those led light bars and it was unreal what a difference they do make. I just couldn't spend what they wanted for them and never researched them. Luke found a great price on it and I would like to hear the name again or where you got it from at least so I can put it on my list to do.

Where did we go?

I am attaching a map from my "my tracks" phone app. Its kinda neat to see where we went. My stats for the trip are a bit messed up since I started the track in my driveway, but it looks like we traveled about 40 miles and altitudes between about 7500ft and 9300 ft.

Very cool! Makes me wish I had a smart phone. Thanks for postin' up some pics too.

A buddy of mine has a line on some LEDs at a very good price. I'll bring the info to the meeting.

Sounds good. Look forward to seeing what your friends got. I'm itchin' for some illumination upgrades!!!
