Greetings everyone. I purchased a 70 Pig last week and am pretty sure Ill be spending a good bit of time in the tech pages. I am curious about the v8 and tranny conversion, 63 corvette 327; is it a recommended change? Thanks for any new owner info.

Welcome! Post up some pics!

I am putting a SBC in my Pig. The plan is for Turkey day weekend. I am going to use a 350/SM465/NP205 for the Pig.

A 327 is a fine engine. But if your F is running, I'g keep it for as long as you can and get used to your Pig. I would have but this happened to the PO:

I have a friend that went 327 in his overland. He says it's a little too much high end power, and the parts are getting harder to come by. I'm happy with a 350. I should think they put out about the same power. I think the 327 develops power a little quicker and flatens out on the torque curve sooner. I would go with an rv cam to lower the curve at the very least. I am an idiot though; my two cents might be worth only .01 in some circles ;). Good luick.-JJ

pigs are heavy, but i would agree on the stick with the stock powerplant if it's rinning idea . if you are planning on larger than stock tires, disregard that opinion

Good Lord Arron...that is one hell of a mess of bits in your oil pan.....X3 or 4 on keeping the stock motor unless you must have the extra grunt.

I always understood the SBC to be about 200 lbs lighter than the inline six toyota. I love my 383 SBC in my fj40 and plan to do the same in my 71 pig. Wanna buy a great running F motor, trans and xfer cheap? :D

Nasty huh? The guy said that it didn't make any loud noise when it died on the freeway. I bought it expecting the worst and I have come out ok by selling off parts that I wouldn't use in the V8 swap

Yup, the SBCs are lighter and I think a good match for the pig.....maybe a bit much for 40, but I like them in the pig. They are also eaiser to get parts for at out of the way wheeling spots....

I put the 330 HP SBC 350 crate motor in mine..............coupled with the NV4500 Tranny.........it is a great combo for the Pig.

TBI 350 in my 55, I've never known it with the stock F since it's history includes a 'pioneer' engine conversion (68' SBC from an Impala the numbers proved) with angle iron as tranny mounts and custom bellhousing, etc. done before any adapters were mass produced. If it had a good running F series engine, I would have kept it but the small block makes the pig move : ) but it is high end power with the SBC where an F series engine lugs the low range like no other. Win/Win : )
