Hello to Everyone
Obviously I'm a new member on this site. My Dad's been a member for a while now and he's building a pretty sweet FJ40. I've got a longbed 1983 Pickup in nice shape that I'm building up to be all around good offroad but still streetable. Unfortunately I'm a Plebe stuck here at West Point so I can't use it much, but I still love it so I'll try to post pictures ASAP and I've got tons of technical questions to follow as i build it up slowly. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

sams truck 009.webp Here she is on Ocracoke Island, NC with my family minus me:frown:. Currently I've got a Rough Country 3" lift and 33x13.50" Mud Grapplers I put on just before I left. Soon to come are 4.88s, Marlin Crawler bumpers and and a winch. Then i'll put in ARBs and try to get a bit more power out of the 22r. Later on I'll go with dual cases and maybe more lift/tires. BTW the sorta gaudy paintjob was on it before I bought it. From what I've read it's the first year with power steering, AC, and a reliable 5speed. It's got practically zero rust and a PO installed custom interior (probably won't last long the places i go with it) and the vintage '83 radio which does not sound so great. All in all it's way too nice for an irresponsible 18-year old like me.

Nice, truck, it looks bad with the mud grapplers! If your going to save for lockers definetly go ARB, but Im partial to my Aussies over my Uncles ARB. Turns brilliant in 4wd, and no delay, instant traction!

BTW- The irresponsible 17yr old in me knows you can fit two twelves behind your seats, if your under 6'3 or have short legs! BUT i would go with 10's if i build it again, the 12s are TOOO much, theyll give you noise violations in big citys, ask me how i know! :) :flipoff2:

Thanks man. I'm only 5'7" so I'm working on putting a nice stereo with an L5 10" left over from my first truck, but stereo's low on my priority list behind the mechanical stuff. And i like the simplicity of the Aussies and Detroits and etc. but since it'll be my daily driver for a long time I'm gonna go with selectable.

Nice truck! For some reason, it looks very familiar to me:). When you get home, can you show me how to post pictures? Thanks, it's really cool to see you on the site.

Thanks for the welcome. The lil feller's my little brother and he is pretty short. The tires ain't cheap at around $250 a pop for my 33's, but they ride great on the road and are awesome off road as well. I can't say from experience, but they're supposed to last for a while. And they look cool, IMHO.

Yeah I know it's definitely pricey, but they took like zero weight to balance and ride smoother (and louder) than the trxus m/t's i had on my old dodge. I think if you shell out the cash for quality, it usually pays off in the long run. Plus I'm not spending any money on college or food, so I might as well put it to good use! ;)

Nice truck. I miss my 82 Hilux. Should'a kept it.

Yeah thanks. All toyota trucks are great but there's something about the first gen i love. I think it's one of the best truck bodystyles of all time. And obviously they're awesome mechanically as well.
