Hey everyone. I've used done lots of research here, but never posted. It's a great resource and thanks to everyone for all the helpful info you put up here. Hopefully I'll be able to join some local Cruisers for some camping trips. My primary interests are expedition oriented and my wife and I love to surf and rock climb.

I live in SoCal and have a 97 40th anniversary FZJ80. 3x locked & pin7, OME heavies, ARB front w/Warn 12000, Kaymar rear, BFG AT 315 x6, OEM sub tank, snorkle, CB, and Maggiolina Grand Tour roof tent on its way from Italy.

Here's a pic....

Welcome:flipoff2:

Nice truck. Like he extra protection

Sweet looking ride! I'd love to see more pics of your rig!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 40th Anniv. 80s didn't come in white...? Does yours have the two-tone leather interior? Nice looking rig either way!

My family had a 40th Anniversary cruiser but it didn't have two-tone interior! The interior was leather but not two-toned!

I was confused by this as well, but I think this legitimally is a 40th because it has the auto A/C. It would be a hell of a forgery if someone went through and added all the badges and floor mats just to make it look like a 40th. I bought it from the original owner...

Nice looking truck! I like the Hellas and the black on white scheme

Welcome :flipoff2:
Yes. I bought it in Miami and drove back to SoCal. Tuck ran great all the way home, but didn't pass CA smog so now I have to figure out what's wrong. Has a few other minor issues: needs a new ABS sensor in the front and the rear diff lock sensor that tells the ECU that it's locked isn't working - diff lock light keeps blinking even though it's locked. Minor oil leak, but otherwise it's so clean you'd never know it's 10 years old. It's a very nice truck and gives me a head start on all those expensive mods. 135k miles.

Welcome! :flipoff2:

Truck sounds nice but there's a red X for a pic this morning.

Where in SoCal? Check out the SoCal 80's section as well for those of us nearby.

So I owned the other white 40th on this board before selling to Kaderabek. Mine was not an original; I had the port installed badges given to me by a friend so I finally said what the heck. One surefire way to tell on yours: The seller had the original red and white Toyota window sticker in his pics. Does it say 40th Anniversary on it? If so, you truly have a White Buffalo.

Does it have two tone leather seats? This would tell you for sure.

I'll post an update on my 40th mystery when I get the original sticker. It does not have the two-tone seats. If it's not a 40th, then why does it have auto A/C? My understanding is that auto A/C only came on the LX or the 40th - is this correct?

That is correct. Did you look to see if it has the little black domed temp sensor...in front of the passenger on the windshield defroster vent? If yes, then its likely a factory install, if no, then its possible he just added the Auto head but not the sensors. He had that subtank installed so anything is possible wiring wise.

I also noticed in his pics that he had the 40th wheels with the dark grey painted inserts.

Yes, it does have the black temp sensor. I owned a 2000 limited 4runner in the past and it had auto A/C so I'm familliar with how the system should operate. There are many things in common between the 97 LC and the 00 4runner so it makes sense that the two systems should operate similarly.

Yes, it does have the black temp sensor.

So the plot thickens. Go look under the front behind the ARB bar left of center and see if you see a plastic tube mounted on the core support adjacent to the AC condenser. Should be about 3" long and 1" in diameter with wires coming out...that's the other sensor. If it has that, then someone went to a LOT of trouble.. Ultimately the window sticker will tell, but I will be very surprised if Toyota built a 40th in white.
