Bring a hand held 2 meter . Not that far away from anyone . Also throw a mag mount antenna in the truck incase you do need a little more distance .

Who is bringing kids? My daughter wants to ride, but I want to see if there will be other kids to play with. Joel? Jacob?
I will have Cale with me. When I talked to Joel he was planning on bringing Finn.

I'm bringing Finn, the jury is out on my 6 year old Townsend, he's a maybe!

I'll be bringing Hailey. I was thinking that if Andy's taking his wagon we might just bring the Dodge and the camper. Elbert, I found a steel two meter antenna with the spring on Amazon. It's been on the front of my 40 for five years now and hasn't broken. I'll try to find a part number for you. Just kidding about the Dodge, I am putting the snorkel back on my 40. I recommend more than just a handheld 2 m for anyone they can get one. Sometimes we do manage to get far enough apart that the handhelds won't pick up.

Ok...Yeah I need to go on the hunt again for a spring base 2m antenna, post up the brand / model number if you can find it. My diamond brand antenna does have an internal spring...but a good wack with a limb pretty much overwhelms that... I'll surf around Amazon to see what find or other places.

I have been running the comet ss-460 (18.5")for several years, l have broke a couple but it was hits at base of spring that no antenna would have survived. It is a 60 w antenna so I don't use high power with it. Universal-radio.com is $20 cheaper than Amizon on this antenna.

LARSEN NMO-2/70SH | SHORT 2M/440 MOBILE ANT

I'm probably going to get this.... its a Larsen and its short, don't know what it will do hanging off the rear of my truck but I guess we will see. I like the quality... anyway apparently there are some choices...pay attention to the mount type and you should be good.

The diamond antennas I've been running are good...except in the brush and overgrown areas the spring that is made into the antenna that has about 3 coils in it, about half the way up the antenna mast is apparently perfect for tree limbs and heavy vines to grab.... it sounds crazy but that's what is happening on mine and it pulls the mast and breaks the bottom top of the mount at the base even though it has a spring in it to help mitigate small hits...the branches and vines...apparently have enough force to "kill" it. I've lost 2-3 antennas.

I think you are good if you can find one that lives and both the antenna itself and a good mount location.... not sure if brand really matters... but probally best to stick with coment, diamond, larsen in the right freq range (at least in my view)

This is the one I bought, haven't got it mounted yet but I hope it works.

Amazon.com: SS-680SB Mobile antenna, 2m/70cm, UHF, 27": Sports & Outdoors

Here is one...don't know know anything about its quality

Dual-Band | Comet Antenna

pay attention to the mount... nmo or uhf/pl259

I may just buy one and we can see if it passes the torture test.

I'm running a comet SS680SB. Haven't broken it yet (5 years)

You can get it for a few dollars cheaper directly from gigaparts.com

I destroyed a Larsen NMO 2/70 at the cove last time I was there.

My B-I-L is interested in riding along on this trip. His truck is a stock Yukon with 32-33" mud tires. He's o.k. with scratches, but could it make it through?

Are there fees for the ride? Is it private property? NF? a ORV park?

Any opportunity to shoot guns there?

Just want to know what to pack/expect.

BTW, I joined ya'lls club last week. Do I get a cool sticker?

The Yukon will be ok if its not too muddy or deep. and that 10 bolt rear stays in one piece :)

no fees (yet)

some shots have been fired in the past

pack everything and you'll still forget something

i think we can find you a sticker.

Bill I have your registration info, will send your sticker and other info soon.
