New vendor "Bowfin Cruisers" and new 80 series roof rack option

I really like this design. I’m sure I can get a ski rack mounted even if my Yakima doesn’t work. How much height does this add to the roof? Thinking about my Home garage and parking garage at work.

It really doesn't add much height at all. My 80 has a 4" lift and 35" tires and it is 6'6" tall with the rack on it. My old factory roof rack is out in the weeds somewhere iirc, maybe I will try to find it and put it on for a comparison.

Side panels and latch hooks are out for bending, hoping for morning pick up. Tapping holes in extrusions tonight. Packaging materials are here, as well as a couple of extra surprise goodies to go along with the racks. The plan is to powder coat all parts by Thursday night. I'm taking Friday off of my mortgage paying career so I can work on packaging and shipping the first ten orders out. It is a tight schedule and more things are out of my hands than I want but so far, so good. Still on track. Thanks to all that have committed to round one!

My first 4 paid up have their parts prepped and racked for powder coating in the early a.m. Everything else is ready except for stainless lock nuts I forgot to order for the latches :bang:. Thankfully McMaster Carr is a one day ship from me and I can order up til 7PM. Those will be here and be the last item in the boxes, then off to UPS. Looking good!

Started at 4:30 this morning and pushed on finishing up the first bunch of roof racks and packaging to ship. My plan was a nice sturdy single package but that proved to be a bad move. I gave up on what I had going this afternoon. My new plan is two packages, one with extrusions and hardware and one with the long side plates. It will now be early next week to ship but a way better plan, I believe.

I really like these racks.

Thread needs more pics!
I will get that happening asap. When it isn't raining this time! 4 racks out the door today, 6 getting coated and assembly for shipping this week.

Thanks for the review! Your LX looks sweet!

Color me interested. I wonder how a silver rack would look on a champagne LX?

Is your website up? What would shipping be to either 93455 or 93401? Or is Fastenal less expensive? The 93401 zip address is work and has loading docks if that makes any difference.

Or... as another MUD member asked, would it be easier to wait on Jason carrying them in Redding?

Great job on the rack and good luck on your venture.

Thank you! I think the silver is cool. I was going to run with black on my 80 but I am thinking the silver looks pretty cool. Totally up to you. I will get you a UPS quote on shipping and send you a PM.

Do you have a 100/LX470 version in the works?

I made a deal on a 100 series today, should be getting it tomorrow. A big part of the motivation is to have a rack template. Not 100% sure a production rack will happen but this truck will most certainly get one. My daughter's GX470 will likely be getting a rack too. I guess from there it all boils down to how well it functions/looks and if I can hit a good price point.

Buying a 100 series is a first step.... your rack should be easy to duplicate once you have a template so I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep watching your thread.. I love the rack.

Thank you. Considering the amazing builds you have shared with everyone on mud, I will take that as a great compliment.

Very serious consideration coming for the 100 series rack. I will keep you posted.

The craziness of the holidays are behind me and it's getting a little more normal. Normal involves putting a TON of wood into the boiler these days, but I do love winter, so it is what it is.

I am also building another set of roof racks for the 80 while development moves on for the 60, 100 and GX470 as well. I will have another batch of them ready to roll within a couple of weeks and I will keep the thread posted on progress.

My website is so close to ready! Thanks for patience there. Please pm me with questions and I will respond asap.

Thank you so much to those that have purchased racks already. Your positive support has been awesome and really drives home why I wanted to do this in the first place!

I'm not sure why I never linked my video of how the latch works. I put it in the vendor thread but here it is as well.
