I am looking for a new turbo for my 80 series cruiser , just wondering what's out there . I'm not looking for more performance just reliability . I was running about 12 psi of boost and everything worked great but she started screaming at me last week and I pulled the charge line off to inspect it . There is a lot of axial play but the impeller seems to be intact . Maybe I should rebuild it ?

I'm live on the North Coast of British Columbia so I usually order my parts online . Does anyone know of any reputable aftermarket turbos and where I could order them from ? I have purchased parts from Australia before with pretty good luck but it's hard to distinguish between quality parts and cheap Chinese stuff online .

Gturbo is good out of Australia, but generally considered a major upgrade rather than an OEM replacement. If you're happy with what you've got, just have it rebuilt.

if you want no extra performance and target on reliability .. there is a no brainier decision on rebuilding your CT26

Th op's main criteria for a new turbo was reliability ,compared to the ct26 They both use dual oil feed 360degree thrust . Both use more efficent compressors and turbines . I can't speak for gturbo but the UFI turbos also run lower drive pressure .

If u were to run them at the same fuel load and same boost as the standard ct26 then it's then I'd put my money on the performance upgrades over the ct26

The ct26 can be rebuilt with new chra and upgraded thrust . Depending on shaft wear this would be the most cost effective option

ForealBoreal has good resonably priced upgrades

Even at the standard boost the UFI option would give better drivability and economy than standard. Faster spool, lower intake temps, lower exhaust backpreasure . Although more expensive would be better performance and more reliable than standard ct26

I've not used a gturbo on a 1hdt bit expensive for me, gets good results though

Gturbo has been good for me, over here the consensus is UFI for Patrol, Gturbo for cruiser. I you're not looking for performance increase, get a GTurbo Grunter, fast spool and way more efficient than the original CT26

pm forealboreal. He's in Rupert and has modified his turbo and am sure he could hook you up with a cost effective improvement.

I was going to suggest the same thing. If you are up in Rupert he's definitely a good person to be in touch with. I'm guessing there might not be anyone in town that will rebuild for you, so by the time you pay to ship it somewhere, have them rebuild it and then pay to ship it back, you might be better off getting a more modern turbo. If you are in Rupert then you and @ForealBoreal can join together on shipments from Australia :D

If you're on a budget but want a good quality new turbo, I highly recommend buying a Melett CHRA (Ebay UK) and swapping your compressor/turbine housings on it. Their quality is exceptional. Perfect option if all you want is an OEM setup. Gturbo is great and all, but will be four times the price. Maybe thats ok tho....

I'll be doing one of my customs on my truck in the following weeks or Jan area. I have a kid coming in the next 2 weeks so I will be a bit slow to work on things most likely.

Unfortunately I won't have any of my customs available as they are all sold, my gturbo will probably be for sale once I get the other one on my truck and tuned up.

These guys have been good so far. Upgraded internals so the supra wheel has been very reliable.

in order of performance level, then $$$$

Performance upgrade
Gturbo (Aus)
UFI - United Fuel Injection (Aus) well known for Nissan Patrol upgrades.
hit up ForealBoreal for his recipe

Minor upgrade
Mamba/mambatek (ebay) choose carefully, they do different variants, not all skookum
Kinugawa (ebay) same applies as above
1hd-fte CT26 turbo (use a 7mgte compressor housing, or stock 1hdfte for different intake hose configurations
CT26 hybrid - use Mellett CHRA for reliable core, 1hd-t turbine and housing, Supra 7mgte compressor wheel and housing, minor mods required

Stock replacements
Mellett CHRA, use your housings
Mamba/mambatek - Be careful to read the descriptions, some of their descriptions are off base, maybe just poor chinglish translation??
Kinugawa, as above
have yours rebuilt - this wont be the cheapest option
