Joey,

Wow thisis a thread.. I enjoy reading your 80 stuff and as a former 60 owner can appreciate the saga.. My 60 was my first cruiser so they hold a special place in my heart.. Hang in there!!!

NLXTACY, I feel your pain.

I bought an 85' with 185,000 miles on it and drove it from Utah to Florida with no real major issues.

I then bought a truck off of Ebay in texas and ended up having a experience like yours as I atempted to drive it back to California.

Now I'm on an 87' FJ60 that I'm begining to wonder if I'll ever get to drive it.

lots of great things happen when things are sore... like you giving me the pleasure of reading trough rat**** engines, under bonnet alt smoke, loose wheelnuts and the wife giving cruiser love when changing the alternator... i must say, i'm impressed! I did not notice that the initial post when you grabbed the rig and blew the clutch was years ago, i've read this like it all happend trough the last few months!

Thanks for sharing, i'm hanging on from now on.

ps: the reason why i first saw this thread, was a search on u bolt flip kit. How did yours turn out? what did it cost you? Pics?
i'm also aiming at a flip kit, i'm waiting for the numbers from Georg.

Figured I would update with what is going on. And the going on is going nowhere. The truck has literally sat and collected dust since the engine blew up earlier this year. I've been driving my other 60 and right now my lack of available time has prevented me from doing pretty much anything with her. To be perfectly honest I am still toying with the notion of going SBC. Even though I have a rebuilt head and engine ready to go if I decide to stay with the boat anchor. My last big bonus went to paying off bills and such so my next bonus, after paying Uncle Sam, is partially going to getting this truck going again and I'm leaning Cheby. I dunno, still torn but I have time to decide. But either way I'm not giving up!

OK, $1000, plus the motor that's taking up space ... ;)

Just got off the phone with Georg @ V.H. He's gonna sell a 2F with 120k to me for cheap and its going to head this way in three weeks. So looks like it may get new life into it after all. May wind up pulling it from the sale section. We shall see.

Read your thread and am interested in your fj60. I like the fact that it has history, albeit one that may be too colorful.

I would be interested in seeing what a diesel 5 speed manual swap would run me. Have you priced the swap out with various engines?

If the price is "reasonable", I may be willing to take on the project. And a rather long road trip getting it back to Virginia. You are talking to a guy who was told 4K for two replacement teeth and currently at 9K (and still am missing a tooth).

Actually grew up in Canoga Park,CA, dated (and married) a Canoga Park "valley" girl. Live in Virginia now but always looking for a reason to get back to old stomping grounds.

I always preferred to have all the history even if its not rosey before making my decisions. And for anyone thinking about getting it I would absolutely want them to know everything. It helps me sleep at night.

Diesel 5-spd depends on what diesel. In this truck I could do an SBC for about $5k. Diesel I dunno.

Sorry about the teeth. But do you need them all in Virginia anyway ? :p

I try to avoid Canoga Park mostly ;)

So is that a no on my offer of $750?

Dyno
