967.44091 StopTech High Carbon Stage 3 Truck & Fleet Brake Kit =Combo 126/306

I'll use this thread to report back after I get them installed and also to document long term performance. I spoke with JB on the phone and I have to say I'm super impressed with how knowledgeable he is. They also carry steel brake lines for the 80's. No idea as to how they stack up against OEM but I may order some in the future as the customer service experience has been great so far.

Just curious. Why didn't you go drilled and slotted?

This is the kit I'm going with.

While I have used those both on my 80 and 4r without issue over the last 4yrs, there is a lot of hate for them here.

:worms:

What's the main consensus in the way of brakes and rotors? I have Hawk brake pads on my 93 4Runner, and the stopping power (even when wet) is IMO superior to EBC.

Generally speaking from past threads, the slotted and drilled are prone to cracking and getting debris in them. I don't baby my 80, but on the other hand don't wheel it as hard as some.

I've read that, but haven't experienced a cracked rotor on my T4R. On the other hand - I'm in West Virginia, and we don't have the high speed stops like out west.

For my TLC - since I'm pulling either a pop-up camper, or my M101 trailer I'll most likely get a brake kit set up for towing.

Glad ih8mud forum's here. Good to pull in all the good information from those that have gone before me.

Guess my short answer should have been, if done again would I? yes. (powerstop "kit")

I was going to purchase this kit however, @retrofive pretty much covered it. I have access to the powerstop kits at wholesale price but they were sold out at the warehouses I could purchase from. Also, they are the same rotors as the sector 27 (hawk) and they have had issues with porosity. Like stick a toothpick in the rotor type issues. Keep in mind I have never personally owned powerstop or sector 27 rotors so its all second hand information. Lastly, slotted rotors bite better. Reference the new c7 corvette rotors along with other performance cars going to slotted rotors.

I have the cross drilled, slotted, and cryo'd on my T4R. A lot of our off roading areas are -- WET! So the ability of my rotors to shed water/mud was one of the big reasons I went that route. Even after being fully submerged they still stop on a dime.

However with the increased weight, and towing of my TLC I'm going to be a knowledge sponge, and read what others are doing in the way of braking. The brakes that are on it are the ones it came with - so at this point are mystery brakes. Still have a nice bit of pads left, but when they wear out ... time for an upgrade.

I'm going to do my best to update the thread with long term info. On top of the above info they were a great deal so I figured what the heck. Worth giving a try.

Are they the same as these ones? The name is similar. probably the price too, if you add everything together.

Stoptech owns Centric.

In chatting with an aftermarket brake engineer (who's ironically also an FZJ80 owner), he spoke pretty highly of the OEM blanks on these trucks. But for the money, he really expressed enthusiasm for the 306 Fleet pads by Centric. "These pads are specifically engineered to perform in pursuit, rescue, and emergency driving conditions. Fleet Performance pads can safely stop vehicles from high speeds and will continue to work at very high temperatures." This added performance comes with slightly higher rotor wear, but that sounds like a reasonable trade to me. I picked up a set. I'll let you know my thoughts after the install next week. CENTRIC FLEET PERFORMANCE BRAKE PADS - Centric Parts

I see in my picture it says Stoptech underneath Centric, that's why I asked since they also look the same in those pictures.

I've found that are also great on squeezing out mud/muck so I can stop.
So many options - looking forward to how yours turns out.

Nothing wrong with the slots, but a little rock can shred your pads on rare occasion in the drilled part if you drive a lot of gravel. Got some pea in one on a car, nothing yet on any of my 4x4s, but this is the first D&S set I've had to run on a truck.

Any update on this brake package? Curious how it turned out
I LOVE the Centric Fleet pads on my 80 with OEM rotors. They’ve actually gotten better but over the past few months. Stopping in heavy freeway traffic where speed regularly fluctuate from 80+ down to 20-30mph, they bite immediately and ramp up quickly as they heat up. Very progressive and predictable.
