My oldest daughter got me a GPS for Xmas, along with instructions that if I wanted something different to feel free to exchange....so I got me an Alpine for the pig:D:D
Turned into a royal PITA to install, had to cut the defroster vent to allow the unit to slide into the dash flush.
anyway it kicks a$$, my son removed the boom box deal from an FJ60 so I hooked it up in the rear floor board, it has enough wiring to set it outside the truck........

Nice....I put a similar Alpine in my eldest daughter's 62 a couple years ago (no mods necessary). Been thinkin about putting the same Alpine unit into my piggie. Any other issues to the install other than the defroster vent mod ?

I know nothing about installing radios....is it a PITA installing in a pig? Anybody know of a thread which details so I can download. TIA, dave

There is a thread in which stereos are discussed for 40 series, but the same principles apply. Good ideas can be found there, and may spark some of your own. My reply is listed below, and the thread can be found here:

Once I get a camera I'll throw up a pic of it, but I built a speaker box that is an entire car stereo system. It has the head unit, pair of 6x9 4-way speakers, and a pair of 5 1/4" 3-ways, plus switches to turn it on (like ignition and a complete kill switch), and a power inverter to use it in my room at college, as well as being able to run off of a cigarette lighter socket, a special plug I installed in my Land Cruiser, and battery clamps if a car battery hookup is necessary. Oh, and if those aren't available it is powered by a car alarm battery, all hooked up to a voltmeter and fused. I've got the plans if anyone wants them, but it is essentially a box that I can throw in the back for driving around, or haul up to my room for use with projectors, computer speakers, and it's part of the sound system for our fraternity parties. It's 23 3/4" wide x 17 1/4" high x 11 1/4" deep, has carrying handles, covered in carpet, 200 watts...

This is what I did. I wanted something powerful, but also portable. This has an internal battery good for 5 hours, a power inverter, cigarette lighter adapter, battery clamps, and an antenna I built into the case for radio. iPod input, plus MP3/WMA capability. Oh, and the voltmeter lights up:D

The easy part is installing the hardware. The hard part is wiring, which I left to a pro.
I also went with homemade speaker boxes and mounted the amp under the seat. I did not want to deal with running wires
through the doors. I'll repost a few pic's here

4 Speaker boxes, two on the rear floor and two in the cargo area, tweeters mounted on the dash and this small slim subwoofer under the drivers seat.
