Not going to powder coat it - Tonight I ground every thing down, hit it with brake cleaner and wiped it down, put a heavy coat of auto primer on it, sanded it and put some black rustoleum industrial coats on it. I am letting it dry over night then I am going to hit it with a rattle can bed liner that rustoleum makes- It goes on really light and has a nice crinkle to it that gives it a satin finish. Should be really easy for cleaning up rock rash. Pics tomorrow.

Stoked to have it done. Just waiting on the ladder now. I am going to use 1.5 inch square tube but at the top I found some prebent elbows to round out the top corners. They should be in soon. For the two rungs I want to use 1.5 inch angle iron drilled for attachments. I am planning on building it 36 inches tall, bringing it just past the top of the tire but still able to get on the roof.

I also am working on the lock outs to hold the arms open. I am going to fool around with some gas struts cause they are sweet and would solve the problem. I might be able to squeeze them into the bottom

Oh, I meant to ask, what did you end up doing to keep the "accessories" from sliding back and forth on the swingouts? I'm digging this idea but I sense alot of rattling and shaking/torsion on those arms if the accessories aren't solid.

I have drilled 3 holes through the mounting plates and the arms. I got some 3 inch long .5inch bolts that secure everything. Just had not done it in the earlier pics. No sliding around back there! So you have the bolt head on the outside and the for the nut head I cut out 3 holes into the main bumper frame so the arms would lay flat....if that makes sense- Both arms have the same bolt pattern as will all the attachments, I will have more pics up tomorrow

pics-:) Really stoked how this has turned out. Minor tweeking like struts and stay open latches to go but really happy with it. These pics show how the attachments mount up to the arms.

Pics showing Rustoleum bed liner- stuff is really sweet- goes on really nice and smooth, easy to repair if scratched, I had to use the grinder to get it off the spindles-seems to be pretty tough. Gives it a satin finish.

Holes in bumper body are for the nut from the attachments to recess into the body. As I have the spaceing set up on the bolt holes, if you lock the latch with a pad lock, some punk could not swipe the attachments off the swing arms because the rear cross member blocks the nut and it will just free spin with the bolt. I guess you could take off both swing arms at once or unbolt the whole bumper and drag it down the street:lol:

More pics in the daylight tomorrow

Bumper looks great. The bolt pieces are a great idea..

the rustoleum stuff turns out geat. I really like the look of it, and it has held up good on the mowing deck of my lawn tractor so far.

SURFJ62--you should be excited--you've worked hard, finishing up a big project--DID IT YOURSELF and it looks great! Have an 86 HJ60 I want a bumper on--so, enjoyed your build--wish I was done--still in the thinking stage.
Enjoy the summer with more space inside the rig.

I really like it! Very nice write up too. Gave me great ideas.

Lastly, have you driven it much? I'm curious about the rattling if there is any from the tire carrier.

LCDiesel60- I wish I could claim all the credit but I cant, Just the many nights waking up and joting down notes, thinking about it when I shouldn't be etc. Iron Pig spindels, AtoZ fab for clevis hitches and all the other creative people on this board were key in making it happen. But more to come!

Kosmo-I have not driven it as hard as I would have liked but no rattels as off yet- I have tried to put rubber on anything that would be metal on metal and everything else is very tight and bolted up strong. My alternator gave up the ghost on me and I am waithing for a new one to come in. Go figure.

awesome.

cant wait to see the ladder attachment

So the way the tire sits on its swingout arm, I had a little bit of room to fill so I got some 4 x7 x10 inch ammo cans and did a quick paint job and bolted them up for extra rear storage for stuff like chains, straps, webbing, tools, coozies first aid etc etc etc. I mounted the top 2 and I think I will do 2 more on the bottom either that or cut the bottom off 2 and the tops off the other 2 and weld them into 2 long cans. They have a good rubber seal and I plan to get some rubber washers to seal the up. I have a lock kit for them to keep little hads out of them. Spare is 30x9.5 on a stock rim. I need to get a matching 33x9.5 spare!

Since everyone loves pics- how I have them mounted up, I plan on makeing a heavy duty bracket to inset into it :hhmm:

Another pic of a great mod but I think I have seen it here before- Fishing/ Fly rod holder to keep them out of the way inside. My rear windows are limo tinted so you cat see the rack from the outside
