Been eyeballing this fj55 for the last seven years, and was finally able to purchase it today. Rust in typical areas and has a couple poor repaints, but overall good condition for what it is. Has a later 1.5/2f, 3speed. Came with a brand new Weber, but I’ve got a good carb to send off for a rebuild. Also have a good 4spd/split case I may swap in with disc brakes. Plan is to seal it up, add sound deadener and drive it! Anyone recognize the intake?

Congrats! Can’t wait to see your progress.

Not sure if the link below will work, but I got the engine fired up for the first time in 13 years (per the PO). Minor tune up, stabbed the distributor correctly and slapped a Weber carb that it came with on. I’ll either have an original carb rebuilt, or do the Sniper.

Also replace the brake and clutch masters, but only one wheel would bleed. Need to tear into the brakes next.

I was pretty jacked the rear window functions too!

Nothing picture worthy to update, but we’re running and driving! Went thru the brakes this weekend. Had to flush a couple wheel cylinders and replace the front soft line, but it stops. Still need to adjust everything to try and get it stopping straight.

Adding a mechanical oil pressure gauge and temp gauge until I’m comfortable with it running. On that note, somehow I burned up the points (maybe left the key on too long?) so I pulled some from a spare dist and it fired right back up.

Turns out this is a 74’ with a 2f block and f1.5 cylinder head. Looks like they swapped the bellhousing over because the clutch space is on t he passenger side.

Next up is trying to get the wipers and front heater working. The rear works, so that’s good. I picked up new fuses and will pull the fuse block, clean everything up and maybe run new grounds.

Speaking of wiring, since one of the POs decided to paint the engine compartment black, including most of the wiring, does anyone know where I can find either a factory manual or wiring schematic for a 74’?

Last thing for the weekend, since we like pics, I grabbed a new set of Kenda 33x9.5x15.

Wiring diagram/schematic in the Haynes Toyota Land Cruiser manual 1968-1982.. $20.00 on EBay

Got it up in the air. Hoping to replace all the suspension bushings over the weekend. Oil change today and cut the nasty dual glass pack exhaust off. It exited right behind the driver’s door.

Not super impressed with the header. It’s two piece and hangs lower than I would like. I’ll post up when it’s complete and back on the ground.

Going to modify the leaf packs with some fj60 springs I have laying around. The driver side sags more than an inch compared to the passenger side.

Duals out would sound good though, had an old beater 530i one winter with duals to the back, man that thing sounded good.

I like how my rear red/white 77 55 and 60 springs combo turned out.. going to do the green/white the same way... smart money spent IMHO!
