Well I drove up to Boise and got my 76 Pig will post pics when I learn how.

Totally rust free and just a few dings. Been setting for 14 years but after flushing the gas tank and lines it started right up. Will be using this engine on another project as there is a low mileage 6.0 ready to drop in.

questions:

back glass is down and motor will not operate. is there any way to get the glass up to access the motor?
has anyone here converted to a 5.3 or 6.0? if so was there room enough for a fj60 power steering box.

Thanks in advance for any help for after many 40s and 3 60 series this is my first 55

Yes. Two ways, one is simple, one is complicated. Simple is with a BFH.
Complicated is: take off the inner tailgate panel, feel along the lower edge of the tailgate glass where the two swinging arms meet it. there are two C-channels. there is a sliding clip in each of the C-chanels, sliding clips have little tabs on them that stick out. Put the business end of a slot screwdriver on the tabs (one at a time) with the handle towards the center of the tailgate, tap with a hammer on the handle to drive the sliding tabs out of the C-channel. When the tabs are out, you can remove two pieces of C-channel that hold the swinging arms. Push the swinging arms out of the way, lower the glass, open the tailgate and slide the glass out...hard to describe, easier to show. Do it once and you'll see what I mean.

KBill45,

I had room, but it got close with the power steering pump return nipple. You'll have a bigger challenge with the oilpan and the front dif.

Check out Lil' John's Daily Driver build. He used a 6.0 and has a lot of good information.

Good luck with it,

Thanks Pighead - good great info - got glass out and found that motor was good but gear was shattered. Any idea where I might find a replacement? Toyota still lists the motor but not the gear assembly.

OK, so type in a description of your photo in text section of a reply, then click on the orange attach file right next to "post reply" below. You will immediately be directed to your computer's photo choices. You will then have an option of "opening" a photo by clicking on it, or canceling the procedure. After opening, the new mud quickly processes the photo and gives you a choice of a Thumbnail or full image. Please select full image.
I went through this to make sure it works, so here's my photographic contribution for the day: 7 foot 6 Yao Ming out for a jog.

Thanks for the help. This stuff ain't easy when u r in your 80s

Man, that is a nice one. What's your plans for it?
Thanks. I will drive it around for a while and check everything out. It sat for 14 years. Drained 8 gallons of rotten gas out - flushed the tank with some clean gas and it started right up. Pretty rough at first but had bad vacuum leak at the intake. Removed the intake and found it kind of curled up on one end - ground it smooth and it cranked right up and smoothed right out. Shifts smoothly at trans. and tcase. Couldn't believe it has a full brake pedal. When I am satisfied that it is good to go the 2f is will yield to a .08 6.0 chevy so I can trailer my 75 40 up to Moab 3 times a year. Will clean and paint the engine compartment but hold off on a complete paint job until new engine is in. I am 81 now so this will definitly be my last restore. All my friends and wife have a good laugh at that. I think this will be my 5th or 6th absolutely last restore.

MINI TRUCK POWER STEERING.

I am new to the 55 and did not know this was a possibility. Did a search but did not find a conversion thread. Evan ironpigoffroad more into other models. Does anyone have a good thread on this?
