When undertaking any minor or major project on your cruiser, have plenty of extra 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, and 17mm normal and deep well sockets handy. Landcruisers physically eat sockets and you will never be able to find the right size when it is time to remove that critical nut/bolt.

And if you're not the original owner who's always serviced it at the dealer, have some 11mm's, too. :wrench::bang:

These are old trucks, bottom line. My rule one is to get the vehicle mechanically sound before anything else. All the lifts, big tires and armor are just a bunch of dead weight if it has mechanical issues.

Go through it top to bottom. Replace all filters and belts, change out the BRAKE FLUID!!!! Go over the brakes and replace anything that even gives you question. Replace the thermostat, it's cheap and can give you headaches at the wrong time.

I have seen soooooooooo many guys buy a rig, throw some tires at it and take it out in the woods, only to break down and create a very long day. Not only for them but also for the buddies that are helping them out. Breaking down on the road is bad enough, breaking down on the top of a mountain some where is no fun at all.

And some 13's / 15's....

It always seems to be the 12s though:meh:

Actually, the sockets you need that are missing are the ones that you need at that exact moment:flipoff2:

Dont ignore previously mentioned rules and attempt to start your 40 to test your inverter while its on jacks.

What happened?

OFFICIALLY - I blame trusting my huz.

Its still up on jacks, we put the inverter in yesterday. He said "well, go get the keys and try it out"

So I got the keys and turned it just enough to lurch on the jacks..Scared the LIVING POO out of me. The huz found it amusing. No harm done.

"Whyd you turn it all the way?"
"Because you told me to turn it on"
"GO FIGURE, ... first time youve EVER done anything I told you to!"

:whoops:
I got lucky..this time..

Ahem. Add this to "how not to attach shackles"

:bang::clap::bang:Yes, its mine. I have the shackles that were on it - (which are much bigger) BUT when we put it all together, the front ride is noticeably higher than the back. Soo we tried the shorter new shackles on the front. It dropped the front alright. The springs (got them from Hell Creek) are on right. We followed the directions to a "T" I suppose I can hope for them to settle??:bang::bang:

This was before the new ones shackles.... The angle of the pic is off so its not as easy to tell the front is higher.

They are exactly the same length as the very old ones - I think its just because of how I f'd the shiny ones up. I guess yall will point and laugh. My front end with the old longer shackles will sit about 2 inches higher than the rear.

Yeah don't park at the mt island lake WalMart in a cruiser..... People tend to run into you

or the one in travelers rest......they tend to disappear

Al I hope you at least got the satisfaction of causing more collateral damage to the offender

Other than a few scratches on the ARB and one broken screw on the lower valance.... non to speak of for me. Same can't be same for the Tundra that hit me.

Didn't even get to see it.... missed it by about 30 seconds.

Happened this morning.

Walking out from walmart towards to back of the lot where I parked I see a new crew max Tundra with what looks like two teenage girls driving coming the towards me that is missing all the glass on one headlight with the other hanging out, grill smashed up and front bumper hanging off on one side dragging on the pavement. its leaking coolant and has drops of ATF and oil trailing it. I stared for a bit as it passed and wondered WTF they were doing and then thought they must have smashed into a light post in the parking lot...... Well when I got to the 80 I realized that they had pulled too fast into the space in front of me or hit the gas instead of the brakes. there was smashed glass and plastic all over the place as well as a pool of ATF and coolant in front of the 80. Checked the 80 over and the aforementioned damage is all there was. Drove it around the parking lot and down the street and the steering and tracking is fine with no more vibes than normal...... it must have been a hard hit judging by the state of the tundra and was a bit worried for my brand new wheel bearings and TRE but they seem fine. :meh:

It must have been those girl's father's truck and they freaked out and took off. Don't think they can hide the damage though ...

Shame as the truck seemed lifted a tad big and had TRD and supercharger decals on it with some nice baja claws.

Oh well no damage done to me but it is the 2nd time the 80 has been driven in to in that parking lot.

Just lucky I was driving the 80 and not my buddies truck that i'm storing at my house for a few weeks.

I only wish I had been fast enough and gotten a picture of the Tundra as it drove by
