Hi,

I'm new to MUD, fairly new to Nevada and am looking for an FJ40 to use to access remote areas of desert mountain ranges.

Being new to Nevada, I didn't realize just how restrictive DMV is for what they will allow to be registered in (Clark County (Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno)), unless its registered as 'classic' and restricted to 5000 miles per year.

So, I'm looking for either:

1. An FJ40, newer than 1967, that has already successfully passed the Washoe County or Clark County, NV Smog test and been registered in NV - BUT, not as "classic".

2. An FJ40, older than 1968 - no smog test required, if the engine is also older than 1968. This can be located in-Nevada or out-of-Nevada, BUT, (for me) the body and chassis VINs MUST match.

3. An out-of-Nevada FJ40, newer than 1967, that has:
a. matching body and chassis VINs;
b. original engine, with any associated smog equipment (that was included at
time of manufacture) - smog equipment MUST be working
OR
replacement engine that is the same year (as the vehicle) or newer AND
includes any associated smog equipment (that was included at
time of manufacture of the replacement engine) - smog equipment
MUST be working

I'm not looking for a 'queen, a 'crawler'' or a 'project' - I merely want a safe, dependable LC that can get me where I want to go, in the remote areas that I love to explore - I really need to quit tearing up my Tundra.

I want the 40 to be as stock as possible - no SBC, etc. Minimal rust is acceptable - but only minimal.

I prefer to stay under $15K, but will go as high as $20K (cash) for the right 40, with the right equipment.

But, its IMPERATIVE that I be able to comply with the Clark County, Nevada registration requirements- I need to drive more than 5000 miles per year.

I apologize for the lenghty text, but there's no easy way to say all this...

Please PM me with any candidates.

Thank you!

Danny

My '78 Arrived Yesterday Morning

My '78 FJ40 arrived yesterday morning and I've been admiring her ever since!

I bought it from Classic Car Liquidators (classiccarliquidators.com), in Sherman, TX.

Although there were delays in getting it delivered, they gave me reupholstered seats (front buckets and jump seats), to make it worth waiting.

It was a pleasure to work with professionals like Clay (salesman) and Donnie (general manager).

We've named her "44-40" - for 44th wedding anniversary and FJ40 and a reference to the 44-40 caliber bullet, used by the Winchester '73 and pistols as well.

44-40 has the original 2F engine, the original 4-speed and just over 93k miles (not sure if it's original mileage).

We think she's gorgeous and a joy to drive!

She came down the ramp, sporting a tow bar, but I took it off as soon as I could!

Nice 40... Mine is this exact color... Something funny is, it to was painted red at one point and there are some small indications of that as you look around the vehicle. I bought mine fromTexas as well and have it here in AZ now... Nice 40 though and welcome to the club!!

Thanks guys!

It is interesting about the painted over red 40s outta Texas - especially painted the same color.

Riley - I'll start a thread as soon as I get my fill of staring at my 40! I've been climbing all over, in and under it, haven't found anything amiss thus far, except a slight underneath. I'm taking it to Toyota on Tuesday to get their opinion of the overall operational state - I want to be sure I'm not missing anything.

Somebody help me... I'm colorblind... the title says 'tan' the bill of sale says 'beige' - is mine tan or beige?

Thanks!

This may help... (if it's original paint!)

Also, not sure I'd take it to Toyota. They are probably less knowledgeable than some other local shops about 40's.
