North Shore ordered them in for me. Took a while though. If you went with a more standard size (like 15") I bet it would be much faster. Good luck.

Hey Cam, you need upper and lower tailgates, should be parting my blue rig out soon and the lower is rust free, upper some inside rust through, nothingon the outside..

Trying to get together a little cash for the turbo...

I know you have fab skilz, so I would not be surprised if you blew in some new metal on your gates...:beer:

Thanks Rob but I have nowhere to store body parts at the moment. I'm gonna work with what I have for now. I have been batteling rust for the last few days. I managed to get the front fenders (and inners) cut and re-shaped a bit and hacked out rust at the same time.

Oh yeah and managed to bend some 1" sched. 40 at work (got paid to build my truck!):D for sliders.

As usual I have several cruiser projects on the go at once:
Rust repair,
Rear seat shoulder belts,
Wiring,
Compressors and
Sliders

Hey Cam, do you have the truck in operable condition? Want to go somewhere this weekend?

Sorry there Andrew... got to go to Van this weekend to pull my hair out, battle traffic in the rat race, enjoy our wonderfull ferry system, wait in conjested linups and drive on roads where not getting crashed into is the main objective.:bang:

Trust me I'd rather be wheelin!

Nice... wanna bring back my sliders for me? :grinpimp:

UNGRUNT.... Bodywork. I don't much like it but here are some pics of the (current) rust battle.

These panels were expensive and they required much stretching, forming and dicking around to get them to fit. Overall I'm happy with the outcome and this should keep the rust away for a long time. T'was easier than cutting and patching with hand made pieces. I just wish there were more options out there...If I cave these bloody things in on the trail it'll be a sh*tstorm for days. Lol

Ill smear on some finishing putty and have this side in primer tomorow. Then on to the next side to do it all over. Yeeha...

nice..
u wanna do mine next...

Hey Cam,
Looks good, but your right, that piece is dam expensive....like 300 bucks a piece at 4wheelauto, I did read that they don't fit so well off the forums, but you have made it work. I gotta do the same thing in a few weeks but I'm planning to do some cutting and patching as all my money as gone to house reno's.

Cheers Justin

LOL... so funny you are. Ask me when the stink of this project has worn off.... but yeah I can help out.

You move yet?? We got to hang some day...Any chance you bought a house out my way???

Oh yeah... Do you guys have a 'metal break' at Colonial??

Justin, With your 60 patching is a good way to go. Mine was too far gone I even had to rebuild the inner seam as it too was rotten. Use lots of "weld through primer" and "seam sealer" and you will be good for many years. Ill give you a hand if you like.

Cam

Got the drivers side in primer. Decided to clean up the rocker as well.

After getting into the lower part of the 1/4 panel I found some rust. (big suprise) So I docked the lower part off. A conservative trim compared to others but I'm happy with it.

Because of the body lift I can tie the 1/4 panel protection to the frame in a straight shot without having to cut that extra 2" off the panels.:)

The lines still flow nicely IMO.

Now for the Pass. side. Here we go all over again. Hey anyone want to come over and sand filler???

Well it's about time I posted something here again.....

As I get to know people in the club I no longer feel like posting things here, or I just plain forget. I suppose I started this thread as a way of introducing myself and now that I know everyone (at least in the VI Cruisers) the introduction phase is over.

I suppose Ill keep you all in the loop as to what I'm up to in the case that my findings and f*ckups can help others improve on them and in the case of the latter avoid making them all together.

So here is the latest,

In the future I will be adding more electrical stuff. Things like CB, rock lights, compressors etc...Rather than jumping and tapping existing electrical circuts I got an aux. fuse box from painless wiring. It has 2 relays, 1 for each 5 circuts each of which are fused. I wired it all up on acc. power.

Then I mounted the fuse box in the side of my center console for easy access and to keep the wiring in one spot near the switches. (which aren't there yet..lol)

The quality of the fuse box was good, all the wires were labled for the corresponding circuts and the back side was all glued up solid to stop shorts and to keep everything solid.

Any way here it is.

Body work....

Well I didn't get any helpers to sand filler but that didn't suprise me one bit. Bodywork sucks. Oh well mine is all done and I never have to do it again..... (thats wishfull thinking)

Well its done for a while until I cave things in on rocks and trees, or the dreaded rust makes a comeback.

I sprayed the quaters, dog legs, sills, rockers and a door that had rust spots forming.

The pics make the job look great and the fact of the matter is that it isn't. This is no show car paint work but it wasn't ever supossed to be. New paint will never match 25yr old paint and even if the colour matches the shine won't.

I painted it in my garage. I had chem filters on my resperator that were over a year old (far past the service limit). Limited light, no dust control, no humidity control, lots of bugs and by the end of the first coat of clear I was wicked high! :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

The blends worked out fine but I ran into problems with the clear. Got a few runs but nothing too bad. Ill see how bad they look after the new paint gets scratched and pinstriped to match the old. I could bust out the polisher but that seems a bit redundant considering what I'm going to do with it.

Here are a few more. I havent washed it yet as I want to give the paint more time to cure. I sprayed it late last night. The last pic was taken this morning when it was straight out of the "booth" I was suprised to see that dust wasn't a problem at all. In fact the lack of dust is the best part of the job. Like I said, its not perfect but its SO much better than rust!

Cheers lads!

Last night Jayson, Morgan, Jeff and I headed up island to grab a parts rig. She's a real looker! The back .5 isnt reallt attached to the front .5 and the top isn't really attached to the bottom but it amazingly held together over the Malahat!

Morgan and I drove Jaysons 60 while Jeff and Jayson piloted the "smurf mobile" We made bets as to haw slow it would be going at the top of the "hat" and Morgan nailed it with 65kph. Not bad at all. If it had rear diff oil it might have hit 70.

We only had to do one U turn to avoid the boys in blue and Jeff and Jayson sacrificed a few brain cells as the exhaust dumps under the rear floor, that isnt really there.

Good times.
