I'm 6'05" and still can't get on top of my roof with the lower gate down. I want to be able to get on the roof quick if I am being chased by a bear or something :D

Hmmm, good point. :D

Spydaz, not as of yet. Ya know, Rome wasn't built in a day :D Actually, I am far more impressed than I thought I would be with the 315's. I am ok with it. This may partly be due to my previous trail vehicle (85 4runner with a 22RE).

Hey Johnny,
from a former UT resident (I even went on a couple of trail runs with you guys) welcome to the TLC family. Did you get rid of your 4runner? It's killing me not to build up my 96 right now but if you ask my wife she'll tell you it's "her" landcruiser. I guess it's a good thing I've still got my good ole trusty rusty 1980 mini. At least she let me put the lift on it and take it to Fordyce.
Great info, thanks for the ideas.

Ladies and Gents-

We officially have "J-Moose" rack number 2 via Cruiserhead05! SEE IT HERE.

Who oh who will be number 3?????

I'd like to build this rack for my JDM HJ61. Prob is I'm having a hard time finding gutter mount brackets long enough to clear the high roof. Con-ferr only has 8", but I need 10". Any ideas?

Make your own. Pretty simple really. Get some 1/4" inch aluminum, bend it to attach to the ramps and fit in the gutter then drill a hole or two in it and bend the outside mounting bracket. I used Surco mounts on mine but after seeing these and the Con-Ferrs in person to do it again I'd make my own.

Good luck to ya!

I've just finished building mine (will post writeup after I paint it).
I'm using the "standard" Con-Ferrs.
I actually had a difficult time getting the Con-Ferrs because they are apparently out of business. Offroadunlimited is now dealing with any orders placed through Con-Ferr's website, and it was actually a bit of a PITA to get any info on my order, and to get it shipped in a timely manner.

I have heard that Specter Off Road has a gutter clamp.

Go custom.
Or get the shorter ones and have someone cut/weld them longer.... semi custom.

Second on that

Had the same experience. Had to search all over the net and finally called a shop in Washington that scrounged up two sets (4 clamps and 6 clamps) 2 more than I needed but I actually like having 5 a side now. The rack is bulletproof. Garvin Industries also makes a clamp with a single piece clamp style but I couldn't seem to find anyone that only sold only the clamps.

Clamps

Are you sure they are 7"? It looks like the picture is of two different clamps. One much taller than the other. I used the short con-ferr bulldogs clamps after removing the factory rack and the rack is very low profile. If I use the lower of the two bolt holes I can get the J-moose like rack I fabricated within a .5" of the roof. . I would post some pics but I can't seem to attach a file. Send me a PM with your email if you would like to see a pic.

I called the folks up in Ely and they said 7". It could just be the angle that the pair is at the is confusing. I had done extensive searching to find out more about the mounts but no where or no one else had any specs. I do agree that it appears that there are two different units in the pic but the companies that sell that brand only talk about one size. I think it far to coincidental that the "Quick-N-Easy" mounts look awfully similar to the ones affered by SOR.

After checking out the description again I made a slight mistake, these are the mounts:

The other link is for gutter adapters to mount racks to cap/topper shells.

I found my standard Con-Ferr clamps at...dare I say...4WheelParts. They had "several" at their warehouse in Denver, had them in SLC in 2 days. In fact, the SLC store ordered in 3 boxes of the HD-8's when they ordered mine. Got them to match the con-ferr price from the website.
