I have been driving it every day every chance i get with this great weather. I did all the usual maintenance things like oil and filter air filter, water separator, grease all fittings, gear oil etc. I also install half doors to make it feel a little safer on tight corners.

I hope that truck is going to be stored indoors to protect all that beautiful work you've done. Once the "Sooke paint booth" is emptied out of course! ;)

The Top

As you all know it is more fun driving than fixing but i can't stall any longer i have to finish the top before the monsoon rains come in June and July. The headliner is in great shape,no stains or tears the raingutter has some rust holes to be repaired and some rust at the bottom corners of the sides. I am debating weather to take out the glass or just mask around it, what sayist thou men of mud?

I'd pop them out. They are easy to take in and out.

All you need is some rope to put them back in.

I removed the gutter from the top,all 151 rivets, cleaned and sanded the top, turned the top upright and scrubbed the headliner with spray-9(great stuff) and hosed it down with garden hose and it looks good as new.

Bought a 30 inch brake bender from :princess:auto the other day and bent up the angles i will need for the gutters on a scrap piece of metal,it works great. sorry for blurry pics. Pass side and rear of gutter are pretty good but driver side has some holes right through. 350.00 at CCOT so i will repair it with new bender and it will pay for itself on the first job. As you see in prev pic the thin visor part has muti curves and no right angles and is very rusty so i broke down and ordered that part from CCOT.

Still working on the rain gutter, the inside lip was in bad shape so i cut it off and made up a bunch of pieces about a foot long and some bigger pieces at the rear corners where the water settles. The outside lip that the rivets go through was in good shape because it was sealed to the fiberglass and water didn't get in there. Still waiting for the front piece to come from CCOT so i can finish it and paint.

I got the front piece from CCOT the other day and welded it on. I had to bolt the gutter to the top to make sure the holes lined up and i cut it to the right length. Just have to prime and paint then on to the sides. I also installed a new clutch master and slave on the weekend and welded up the back side of the clutch fork where the slave push rod wears through. See post #206 for before pic and here is after.

I finally finished rebuilding the gutters,a lot of work to save $400. but that,s money i can spend on more important things like beer. I primed and painted the roof the gutter and front lip and it looks good except for some orange peel on roof that i will wet sand and polish out.

Got the top all finished now working on the sides. I removed all the glass and cleaned up all the rubbers and will start on repairing the few rust spots that are just in the corners or where 2 pieces of metal touched together.

Make spray while the sun shines

A beautiful day today so i did what i think is my final spray job. I hung up a line out in the driveway and painted then moved all pieces into the garage with heat on high to dry it out. When i start to put it all together i will probably find some piece in a box somewhere i forgot to paint.

Nice work Vern!

Definitely good to take advantage of the dry sunny weather for this sort of stuff.

I told you it would happen and it did. I put all the painting equipment away and tried to organize the shop then i found it. The main top beam that goes between the 2 sides hanging there all repaired and primed with no red paint. So out comes everything again to paint the beam and it gave me the chance to hit the sides again with a 2nd coat.

Aw geeze..... What can ya do eh?

I didn't check mud before the last meeting and missed all the fine work you had been up to. Good stuff as usual.

So where is the 42 spending the winter? I hope she is warm and dry.

I am a subscriber to the great work you have done in this thread helps me greatly on my 42 though mine is at a snails pace....too many cruisers always chasing problems that slows me down...still looking for a tub replacement I don't want to patch the many holes I have to replace and I want the beading still.
I am thinking about machining some patterns to press form the floor beading if it works then I will patch out the rust.

What paint brand did you use and the mix code...is it single stage....what primer did you use.

I bought a 2nd hand 11x20 car garage that i am going to erect in the driveway so i can work on it this winter.

Paint- I had a local auto paint store mix up the paint. They had trouble with the Toyota paint code but then found it in some old books and i don't have the mix but they do at the shop if you need it. The paint is 2nd Dimension 3.5 acrylic urethane enamel, single stage. Primer was Nason low voc 2k

We finally had a nice sunny day yesterday and i got out the top and the gutter and installed all the rivets and sealed it with a good marine sealer. My goal is to finish this off by the end of March.
