Hey there I'm a new owner of an 88 fj62 and I've been doing a bit of cosmetic work to my baby. She was in Arizona and Nevada most of her life so the exterior got a beating from the sun. That being said I've been replacing old sun worn exterior pieces including the grill and headlight housing bezels. I found aftermarket and oem bezels for 60 and (oem)350. I could not find an oem grill though. My question is basically can i mix and match oem bezels with an aftermarket grill or should I go all aftermarket grill and bezels save about 500 bucks that would be nice, but I wanna do it right and I want it to look nice. Anyone redone their front end grill and all? Pics I've seen of restored 62's look reall clean with new grill and headlight setups, just not sure what combo they used. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

One option is to paint the grill you have. Won't look OEM, but often looks great and is much less expensive.

Several people on Mud have said that the CCoT aftermarket grill for an FJ62 looks quite good. There was another source (other than CCoT) but I can't remember who. I think FJ62s look best with all the shiny chrome grill stuff glowing proudly in the sun. It's an 80s thing...

All the aftermarket grills from different venders are from one manufacturer. There's only one aftermarket grill... sold at different prices. It's an exact duplicate of the original but the chrome doesn't last quite as long. It looks fantastic. Inexpensive too.
It matches perfectly with the oem stuff so you can mix n match.

NEITHER...

Jim aka SROR- Bumper and that looks like Mark's old rig @mmw68

YEP - my old rig.... I miss that rig. It was a custom job SROR bumper. I worked with Jim on creating that bumper, it was a one-off unit.

Back to this thread.... I've bought several parts from CCOT, always good quality, when I had that truck, it had the OEM grill.

It's amazing what painting the grill and headlight surround will do for the truck. You could even do it in a silver. Just prep, scrub with red scotch bright pad, prime, then paint. Little money spent, then if you don't like it, purchase the front grill set.

Self-etching primer. I recommend SEM for primer and paint.

i spent about two years trying to find who build that bumper and when i finally found it was SROR i couldn't get Jim. they said he was gone. anyway went 4plus in the end as it had the same feel but i've always lived that truck. glad it's still out there causing envy!!

i've also heard that the aftermarket chrome doesn't last as long but for the price just change it again every 10 years. you could buy 3 for the price of a good used oem one and store them. life time supply!!

Iam still in contact with Jim, but he has changed careers and putting family first. Good guy....

I purchased maybe the last of OEM grills a few years back. Called around and they did a national search, one delearship had a single grill laying around from a guy who ordered it but never picked it up. It also happened to in driving distance so was lucky to be in the right pace at the right time. It's been sitting in the box since just waiting for my current one to wear out. Probably worth a pretty penny now but I'm waiting for the day I want to go in on a full resto.

CCoT has been 'out of stock' of the repro FJ62 grilles for a long time - I wonder if they have dried up. Any other sources?

The 62 is a tough truck to build for. I believe in the entire time of their production there was only about 17,000 that made it to the USA
making it the least common cruiser aside from the 45 and 55 series.
By now I would suspect less than 20% survived , two of which , wrecked are in my lot. I'm not sure where to get data on the current
number registered but if there are 2~3 thousand left in the country, which is very optimistic, it's a very small base to build a product line around.
I build certain things that fit 62's as well as 60's but the 60 buyer seems to outnumber the 62 buyer 10:1. I believe more 62's were lost to the
Obama's Cash for Clunkers program than we would like to acknowledge. If for no other reason a transmission rebuild cost more than the truck would fetch at the time of the buyout and in most cases the 3000.00 he handed out was more than many people could sell the 62 for in 2009.
I bought 4 60's that year, the most I paid was 1800.00. I'm still driving the 1800.00 one
