Now im due for a 12oK service. And the gas prices keep going up. I love driving my 80 around town but have not wheeled in a long time and still sometimes think about buying something else to replace the cruiser.

Its not that im bitter for having to spend a few dollars thats not anything I wouldnt have to deal with in another car its just that sometimes I would rather have something thats made for driving on the road more than on rocks. And sum more more uumph! AAAand better gas mileage, im averaging about 10 mpg lately. :grinpimp:

Zack - you can always sell me your shortbus bumper for some gas $$$ :D

Well diagnosis from the muffler shop is manifold. Not sure if it's just the gasket or if I cracked it. But last week it was noisier when engine was cold and quieter as it warmed up so that would tell me gasket. Since I am out of town this weekend again it looks like I will have to worry about this next week or perhaps tackle it myself next weekend.

It is not always visible but sometimes you can spot some blackening around the manifold/head junction. You can also use a stethascope with the bell removed and just the tubing to listen around the full perimiter and find a leak. You should obviously do this when the engine is cold to not only prevent burning yourself but because the leak will be more pronounced.

Yeah, the guy at the muffler shop was listening with a hose but couldn't pin point it exactly. Probably because it was hot....
I started her up when I got home yesterday evening and now I am thinking the leak is not where it attaches to the block but just a little further down where it attaches to the down down pipe.

Mark,

The exhaust leak we noticed and discussed with you is where the downpipe attaches to the manifold. There are four studs from the manifold to the downpipe. One of the nuts has backed off about 3/4" and appears frozen. The downpipe dougnut (gasket) is leaking.
Would be difficult to determine any other exhaust leaks until this repaired. Hope this helps to clarify.

John
