More active in the 62 and 100 series portion of this place and the wife has been looking for something more of a project for her. I’ve been messaging this guy on this specific FJ40 and was wondering what y’all’s opinions on this is. Sorta of know what to look for but would love the more experienced guys like y’all to take a gander. I’ve got photos of the top no photo of the doors but said to be complete. Of course the rattle can will need to be cleaned up which will be a chore in itself but I was looking at this more at 5k as a package with the doors

It looks to me that the pic's are "stage" to hide the details. I mean pic's are nearly free in digital form. "Running 3 years ago", then what - #5 cylinder went bad ate the piston because of a leaking brake booster? On the other hand $6500 might be a good price these days.
I don't buy anything for more than $2000 if I don't get to look at it in person.

I just sent back a $1750 Lenovo, and hope they send me my money back so I can go buy a local $1750 HP laptop.

Adding in some of the rear tub and the top that has glass

I dont do Facebook and the pics posted are parts. A blue 40 and beige top. There's no reference of what year is is. It looks like a 79 or later. I don't see 5k yet. Have you looked in the classified section?

For the $8500 he’s asking to include the top and doors I think you could find a better one. I agree, check the classifieds here.

At $5k for the package I’d go for it. Doesn’t look too rusty.

That baby is ruff but can be brought back to life based on the pics shown. Buuuuuuut....

They are asking 6.5k lol. 2k more if you want the top. Prices are firm it says. It's listed as an 82. Has AC and prob P/S.

Yeah he’s firm on the 8.5k as a package tried to have lower it to 5k but they ain’t budging.
Figuring with what you’d need to get it back to a reasonable driver you’d be in another 5 to 8 k.

No rush to me but figured I’d get another set of eyes on it. I’ll just continue to check classifieds on here and converse on what the wife likes. She’s used to the rugged vehicle as she had an older 90 jeeps throughout high school.

Looking is cheap, buying is expensive. I watch craiglist almost everyday for manual cars/trucks. I am truly amazed at what some folks will ask for a non running, rusted out POS. Say you have an old washer that actually works - you put it on the curb as free works - it will sit there until it rots Change the sign to $150 works and it will be gone in a few days - and you didn't have to pay to haul it off.

Put out a want ad on the classifieds here.

It's like it Nordic Blue. Buy it as complete as possible, your goal is to pay as little as possible. It's gets expensive locating parts real fast. Everything seems to be hard to find and the price just keeps going up. I remember a top for 500 bucks. Those days are gone. And obviously, the seller wants to get most out of. If they let you, do a compression test. If it's good give'em the asking price....if compression numbers are good but if they are all over the place you may reconsider the asking price.

The running gear is just like the fj60 of same year. So you should be familiar. The 74 drives like a tractor just to give an idea.
The last thing, it is painted so we cannot tell if has bondo repair. Climb underneath and look at the frame rails similar to fj60. They have a tendency of catching dirt causing them to rust so look for that. I also like the gas tank being outside.
